"Most major dates have already been taken."
Salman Khan’s upcoming film Maatrubhumi may not arrive in theatres in 2026 at all.
According to a recent report, the film’s release could be pushed to next year.
The makers continue to address concerns reportedly raised by the Ministry of Defence overall.
The ministry raised concerns about certain portions of the film in the production.
References to China in the film are among the issues being discussed currently.
Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and co-starring Chitrangada Singh, Maatrubhumi has already been in the spotlight following its title change.
The latest report suggests that unresolved issues have made it difficult to lock dates.
Securing a suitable release date has become increasingly challenging for the production team.
A source provided important insight into the situation, saying:
“The issues are yet to be resolved. Even if they are resolved soon, it will now be difficult to secure a good release slot.
“Most major dates have already been taken.
“In our industry, it is common for actors and filmmakers to take over a date that has already been claimed by another film.
“But Salman Khan is an exception. He is very fair and doesn’t believe in clashing with another film unnecessarily.
“Even if he decides to clash, he will inform the other party before making an announcement.”
The report added that Dussehra remains a possible release window for the film.
This possibility exists only if the pending issues are resolved in time.
An industry insider informed about potential Dussehra window opportunities, saying:
“Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 20, this year.
“Even the day before Dussehra usually functions like a major holiday, with collections witnessing a jump.
“Hence, Maatrubhumi could benefit from an extended five-day weekend of sorts.
“Ramayana is expected to be postponed to October 30.
“After that, no major release is scheduled until the last week of November, which could also work in Maatrubhumi‘s favour.”
The insider’s analysis suggested the October timeframe could be beneficial for the film.
The film was initially announced as Battle of Galwan before the title change.
It was retitled to Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace officially.
Earlier, Lakhia explained reasons for the title change, stating:
“Changing the title may feel sudden to SK Sir’s fans, but it was never an overnight decision.
“From the start, we had registered two titles: Battle of Galwan and Maatrubhumi.
“As we went through the journey of making our film, we realised it was never just about a battle.
“At its heart, the film is about humanity, empathy, and the silent battles our soldiers fight.”
The film explores humanity and empathy rather than focusing on military conflict.
It highlights the silent struggles and sacrifices that soldiers endure constantly.
The narrative approach transcends typical war film conventions and stereotypes.
Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace stars Salman Khan in the lead role.
Chitrangada Singh co-stars alongside him in a significant role in the production.
An official announcement on the film’s release date is still awaited.
