"My music is for every generation."

Renowned singer and composer Sahir Ali Bagga has unveiled his latest single, ‘Mastani’, featuring a surprising pairing of Saima Noor and newcomer Saniya Iqbal.

The track combines fast-paced rhythms with Bagga’s signature style, which fuses contemporary music production with traditional Pakistani folk elements.

Bagga explained that he deliberately incorporates folk angles into commercial songs to bridge generational divides.

Bagga said: “Whenever I make a commercial song, I add a folk angle to it.

“Folk connects with listeners who are 40 or 50 plus, but when I mix it with new music, both generations merge.

“That’s how the generation gap breaks.”

He further elaborated that the concept extends beyond the music, reaching into the visual storytelling of the video.

Bagga said: “I cast Saima Noor and Saniya Iqbal together. There is a full generation between them.

“When you watch the video, you can feel a completely different vibe.”

Saima Noor’s appearance in the video marks the first time the legendary actress has participated in a music video.

Bagga emphasised that his work is driven by a desire to restore Pakistani music to traditional celebrations, particularly weddings.

He said: “I want our weddings to play Pakistani songs, not Indian tracks. Our people should dance to our own music.”

When asked about evolving musical trends, Bagga highlighted the role of technology while maintaining that heritage cannot be altered.

“Technology changes musical colour, but our folk, our heritage, our legacy can never be changed.

“Punjabi will remain Punjabi; Urdu will remain Urdu. You can mix them, but you cannot erase them.”

He said that Western-inspired fads are temporary, while culturally authentic music retains timeless appeal.

Bagga also commented on contemporary music competitions like Pakistan Idol.

The singer noted that classical singing demonstrates skill more effectively than rap or fast songs.

He said: “People sing well, but no one has a unique vocal tone. A hero’s voice should sound like a hero

“Classical is good, but music should feel good, not just surprise you with speed.”

Discussing past artists, he referenced Fawad Khan’s early music career and how musicians ultimately return to their roots.

Sahir Ali Bagga concluded by emphasising the universality of his music, created for listeners of all ages.

“My four-year-old son listens to my songs, and a 90-year-old can enjoy them too.

“My music is for every generation. It is for Pakistan.”

‘Mastani’ is now available for streaming and introduces audiences to the richness of Pakistani folk fused with contemporary soundscapes.
