She refused to continue the relationship.
The body of Punjabi singer Inder Kaur has been recovered from a canal in Ludhiana, Punjab.
She was also known as Yashinder Kaur and had been missing since May 13, 2026.
The news was confirmed by police and reported by news agency PTI, sending shockwaves across social media.
Inder Kaur was a resident of the Jamalpur area of Ludhiana and had left her home in her car that day.
Her family had alleged from the very beginning that she had been kidnapped and that foul play was involved in her disappearance.
The body has been sent to Samrala Civil Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is currently being conducted by authorities.
Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the case and say further investigation is actively underway.
The suspects named so far are Pritam Singh, father of the prime accused, Sukhwinder Singh, and his associate, Karamjit Singh.
Sukhwinder Singh, who is Canada-based, is believed to have fled the country after allegedly orchestrating the entire crime from abroad.
According to Inder Kaur’s family, Sukhwinder had sent a marriage proposal to her, which she firmly and clearly rejected.
The family revealed that Inder had originally befriended Sukhwinder through Instagram roughly three years before her disappearance.
While her family was aware of the friendship, the relationship turned deeply sour after a significant and troubling discovery was made.
Inder Kaur found out that Sukhwinder was already a married man with children, which completely changed the nature of their connection.
She refused to continue the relationship or entertain any prospect of marriage after learning the truth about his personal situation.
It was this rejection, the family alleges, that prompted Sukhwinder to begin plotting her murder.
The family further alleged that Sukhwinder travelled from Canada to Punjab using a secret transit route that passed through Nepal.
He reportedly hired two taxis from Moga to carry out the abduction after arriving undetected and unannounced on Indian soil.
After allegedly killing Inder Kaur near the canal, he is believed to have fled back to Canada via the same Nepal route.
The calculated and premeditated nature of the alleged crime has left both the local community and Inder’s family completely devastated.
Inder Kaur had stepped away from singing approximately five years ago to focus on running her own boutique and makeup studio.
Before that, she had been an emerging and genuinely promising voice within the broader Punjabi regional music landscape in India.
She was widely recognised for her performances and had built a growing and loyal fan following across various social media platforms.
Inder Kaur was fondly known among her listeners for songs such as ‘Sone Di Chirhi’, ‘Jija’, ‘Sohna Lagda’ and ‘Desi Sirre Da’.
