Punjab is preparing to launch two landmark initiatives under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. These include the province’s first-ever bullet train and a new airline named Air Punjab.

Both projects were given initial approval in a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.

Maryam Nawaz approved Air Punjab and ordered the leasing of four new Airbus aircraft in its first phase.

The airline will begin domestic operations within a year and later expand to international routes.

She directed relevant authorities to use all resources to turn Air Punjab into the top airline in the country.

The airline aims to boost Punjab’s connectivity and offer efficient, modern services across the nation.

It also sets the stage for Pakistan’s entry into the regional aviation competition.

The plan is designed to increase economic growth and create new jobs in the province’s travel sector.

In the same meeting, a bullet train project between Lahore and Rawalpindi was approved in principle.

The train will reduce travel time between the two major cities to just two and a half hours.

The route will be operated in collaboration with Pakistan Railways, under direct instructions from the Chief Minister.

Maryam Nawaz delegated the bullet train project to Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb to ensure its rapid execution.

The government is reviewing a public-private partnership model for the bullet train.

This would speed up progress and ease the financial burden on the national treasury.

The Lahore-Rawalpindi route could set a new regional benchmark for railway travel.

This would be Pakistan’s first bullet train and a symbol of modern infrastructure development.

Additional high-speed rail lines across Punjab were also proposed during the meeting.

Among the suggested routes are fast trains linking Lahore to Narowal, Kasur, Raiwind, Pakpattan, and Lodhran.

Other proposed connections include Sheikhupura Fort, Jaranwala, Shorkot, Jhang, Sargodha, Lala Musa, and Faisalabad to other key districts.

Progress was also reviewed on mass transit projects in Lahore and Gujranwala.

The Yellow Line in Lahore will run from Jinnah Terminal Thokar to Harbanspura.

Its feasibility report is expected to be completed by May 30, 2025.

The Gujranwala Mass Transit plan is also moving forward, with its feasibility due by June 15, 2025.

The meeting also featured a detailed presentation on the upcoming E-Taxi project. It is being introduced as a major step toward sustainable urban transport.

The initiative will focus on environmental conservation while improving inner-city travel experiences.

Together, these initiatives highlight the Punjab government’s push toward rapid development, advanced infrastructure, and cleaner transport solutions.
