Kishwar Bano, from Kot Addu, Pakistan, allegedly strangled her husband to death so she could marry his friend.
The victim, identified as Waris, was killed after Bano fell in love with Majeed and wanted to marry him.
The two lovers are on the run and police are searching for their whereabouts.
According to an official at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed police station, labourer Waris had been married to Bano for ten years.
Over that time, he became friends with Majeed, who was a contractor. The two maintained a good friendship and Majeed regularly visited his home.
However, the police official revealed that during the course of these visits, Majeed developed “illicit relations” with Bano. The two began having an affair.
As a result, Majeed and Bano fell in love with each other. They wanted to marry each other and planned to murder Waris.
On the day of the incident, all three were present at Waris’ home. Unbeknown to the victim, the lovers gave Waris a drink that was laced with poison.
When the victim consumed the drink, he became ill and eventually fell unconscious.
After he passed out, Kishwar strangled her husband to death.
Shortly after committing the murder, Bano called her husband’s relatives to inform them of his death.
Kishwar cited natural causes when she informed her in-laws about Waris’ death.
The police officer stated that when the deceased’s brother Ramzan came to see the body, he saw blood coming out of his nose and mouth.
This raised suspicion and Ramzan informed the police about the matter.
Waris’ body was taken to be medically examined. A post-mortem confirmed the victim was strangled to death.
Police officers have registered a case against the accused under sections 34 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
They have assembled a team of officers to search for the whereabouts of Kishwar and Majeed with the intention of arresting them.
In a similar incident which also took place in Pakistan, a woman was arrested for murdering her husband so that she could be with her lover.
Kulsoom Bibi was having an affair with Asad and they wanted to get married.
In a bid to make that possible, they decided to kill her husband. While Mr Rasool was sleeping, his wife strangled him to death.
Police launched an investigation and were quickly able to identify the suspects before arresting them.
Bibi confessed to murdering her husband so she could marry Asad.
