"Maria's story is not an isolated incident."
In a horrifying incident, a 22-year-old woman named Maria was brutally strangled to death in what seems like an honour killing.
This was done in front of her family members, including her father.
The shocking act was captured on video, showing Maria being choked while others looked on seemingly unconcerned.
According to a report from a local news network, Maria’s brother has been identified as the perpetrator.
He carried out the heinous act while being filmed by another family member.
Maria’s other brother and sister-in-law revealed distressing details about the events leading up to her tragic death.
They disclosed that Maria had confided in the family about being raped but instead of receiving support, she was murdered.
Maria’s brother, Shahbaz, witnessed the gut-wrenching moment when his sister was mercilessly strangled by their own family member.
Despite his attempts to intervene, he was met with threats of violence against his own daughters.
This had left him with no choice but to document the barbaric act on his phone.
The police have arrested two of the main accused persons, and a case has been registered.
Social media exploded with horror and disgust over the incident. The feminist movement Aurat March posted, demanding swift justice for Maria’s murder:
“Maria, a 22-year-old girl, fell victim to the hands of her own brothers and father, who callously suffocated her to death with a pillow.
“This heinous crime, perpetrated within the supposed safety of her own home, sends shockwaves through our society, demanding urgent attention.
“I’m sick to my stomach. God protect the women of this country from the beasts in their own homes.”
Many users expressed their shock and sorrow.
One wrote: “This horrific incident is an example of the darkest side of humanity.
“The 22-year-old girl was raped and murdered by her very own father & brother, who were supposed to protect and care for her.
“My heart aches. Rest in peace Maria, far, far away from this dark & terrible world.”
Another said: “Maria’s story is not an isolated incident. It painfully echoes the tragic fate suffered by Qandeel Baloch, whose life was also taken through suffocation by her own brother, Waseem.
“Despite clear evidence against him, Waseem remains free, avoiding responsibility for his terrible crime.”
The similarities between Maria and Qandeel’s cases are significant and deeply troubling.
Both women were silenced by those closest to them and denied the fundamental right to live without fear and violence.
