A Pakistani man by the name of Ali Raza, of Chiniot, Punjab, Pakistan, has been arrested for beating his wife up after losing her in a gamble.
The incident took place at the suspect’s house in Chiniot, which is a small city located approximately 131 kilometres from Lahore.
Raza severely injured his wife with a weapon when she refused to go with his friends after he had gambled her.
The woman, identified as Mehvish, filed a complaint against her husband on Sunday, March 31, 2019.
She revealed that Raza gambled on a regular basis and was a drug addict.
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Raza had got into a gambling game with three of his friends.
During the game, Raza gambled his wife and lost, meaning that she had to accompany his friends. However, when she refused to go with his friends, Raza beat her up.
He also attacked her with an unknown weapon. The sharp weapon left Mehvish with severe injuries.
The victim was taken to a hospital where she underwent medical examinations for her injuries. Police officers filed an FIR based on Mehvish’s medical reports and the statements she made.
As a result, police arrested Raza and he was taken into custody.
In another case of domestic abuse which took place in Pakistan, a man was arrested for beating his wife, shaving her hair off and stripping her naked.
The incident only came to light when the victim explained her ordeal in a video, which gained a lot of attention on social media.
It led to several ministers demanding for police action to be taken.
The victim, Asma Aziz, explained that her husband used to beat her regularly, but it was more severe when she refused to dance in front of his employees.
She explained: “He has always beaten me but this time he even shaved my hair off and hit me on the head with a manhole cover.”
She added that her husband Faisal ripped off her clothes in front of his employees.
“The employees held me down while he shaved off and burned my hair. My clothes were all bloody.
“I was tied with a pipe and he threatened to hang me naked from a fan.”
Asma went to Kahna police a day after the incident, however, the officers asked for a bribe instead of filing a complaint.
After Human Rights Minister, Shireen Mazari saw the video, she immediately took action and had Faisal and one of his friends arrested.
They confessed to the crime and an FIR of torture inflicted on the woman was registered.
