"He has always beaten me but this time he even shaved my hair off"
A Pakistani husband identified as Faisal, from Lahore, was arrested on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, for shaving his wife’s hair off and stripping her naked.
It was a shocking case of domestic abuse that came to light when the victim explained her ordeal in a video and it was widely circulated on social media.
This has led to Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi taking notice and demanding police action.
Punjab IGP Amjad Javed Saleemi issued orders for immediate action and called for a report at the earliest. Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari also took notice of the incident.
The victim, Asma Aziz, said her husband and one of his friends beat her in front of his employees after she refused to dance for their entertainment.
In the video, she claimed that her husband had “always hit her a lot”.
Asma also narrated her most recent ordeal at the hands of her husband, she said:
“He has always beaten me but this time he even shaved my hair off and hit me on the head with a manhole cover.”
She went on to say that her husband tore off her clothes in front of his employees.
“The employees held me down while he shaved off and burned my hair. My clothes were all bloody.”
“I was tied with a pipe and he threatened to hang me naked from a fan.”

Asma left her home the day after the incident and went to Kahna police station, Lahore, to report her husband.
“Somehow I managed to escape the house the next day and approached the police station.”
However, instead of getting her medically examined, the officers at the station asked for a bribe.
“They wanted me to pay a bribe. I did not even have shoes on when I escaped the house. They did not give me an FIR number or take me for a medical examination. All they wanted was money.”
Shireen Mazari immediately took action and had Faisal and one of his friends arrested. An FIR of torture inflicted on the woman was registered. They have since confessed to the crime.
Asma had been married to Faisal for four years prior to his arrest for treating her with the abhorrent abuse and torture.
Initially, she appealed for help as she had nowhere to stay nor did she have money for food. However, according to Punjab police spokesperson Nabila Ghazanfar, Asma has been put under police protection.
