"he bet her in gambling and allowed one friend and a relative to rape her."
An unidentified Indian man from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh has been accused of losing his wife during a gambling game in which he placed her at stake.
After losing the game, he allegedly allowed his friend and relative to gangrape her. The victim explained her ordeal to officers at Jafarabad Police Station.
The woman stated that her husband had committed the crime repeatedly after which she said she was forced to run away.
She also stated that the police initially did not register a case. It took the help of a lawyer to approach the court to order the police to register an FIR.
It is believed that her husband’s friend Arun and relative Anil regularly visited her home to drink and gamble.
The victim claimed that her husband was an alcoholic and had put her at stake while gambling. After he lost, he let his friends gangrape her.
The woman’s lawyer, Khitiz Tiwari, said: “The woman came to me and told me that her husband is an alcohol addict.
“Once after running out of money, he bet her in gambling and allowed one friend and a relative to rape her.
“To save herself from this misery, she went back to her maternal home. But later her husband came and pleaded that he will mend his ways and requested her to come back.
“However, on the return journey itself the vehicle was stopped midway and she was again raped by her husband’s associates.
“She went to the police who refused to register a case. I drafted a petition under 156(3) and on the order of the court, the police had to register a case.”
The order was granted by a Chief Judicial Magistrate and a case was eventually registered at Jafarabad Police Station.
Jaunpur Circle Officer Sushil Kumar Singh explained the situation to ANI News:
“The victim had levied charges against her husband.
“She has said that she was staying at her maternal place for some time and agreed to return only after her husband gave her assurances.
“While returning, he along with his two associates raped her inside the Bolero vehicle.”
“We have registered a case and doing an investigation. Action will be taken as per findings.”
Police are investigating the case and are searching for the Indian man and two associates, who have since gone on the run.
