A Pakistani groom received an AK-47 as a wedding gift from his mother-in-law. A video of the bizarre gift presentation has gone viral.

It is not known exactly where in Pakistan the wedding took place but it has sparked a debate.

The mother-in-law was seen giving the gun to the groom while guests cheered in the background.

In the video, the woman is seen hugging and embracing her new son-in-law as he sat next to his bride.

She then turns as someone hands her the gun. As she presents the weapon to the groom, guests cheered and rose petals were thrown.

The pair were all smiles as they posed for the cameras with the AK-47. Meanwhile, the bride subtly smiles at her mother’s unique present.

The Pakistani groom takes the gun and continues to pose for the cameras.

Throughout the video, none of the guests look even a little scared of the dangerous gift.

Pakistani journalist Adeel Ahsan shared the video and it went viral.

The footage led to a mixture of responses. Some netizens made fun of the strange gift.

One person said: “At least they could have put it inside a box.”

ANI Editor Smita Prakash said: “Gifting Pakistan style.”

However, others said that the gift showcases regression and that it represents Pakistani culture.

One wrote: “Such a sad state of mind, really medieval thinking.”

Following comments that it represented Pakistani culture, Pakistani nationals defended their country and said that it does not represent the entire country.

A netizen said: “Sorry, they don’t represent Pakistani culture.”

Another commented: “This is something whimsically bizarre.

“I understand this must have been in the tribal area and it does not represent the overall culture of the country.”

“In the tribal hilly areas, gun culture is common.”

Although the giving of a gun as a wedding gift is unusual. Guns are common in Pakistani and Indian weddings.

Gunshots are regularly fired into the air during weddings and other celebrations. However, they have resulted in casualties and even death in the past.

In one case, an Indian man accidentally shot himself in his genitals while attending his friend’s wedding.

The wedding guest and a few others were allegedly drunk when the incident took place.

According to reports, the man shot himself as he went to the toilet when the pistol’s trigger got accidentally pressed.

The man was rushed to a local hospital where doctors had to perform emergency surgery to remove the bullet and to surgically repair the man’s genitals.

After the man was taken to the hospital, guests informed the police about the incident but no formal complaint was lodged.
