Pakistani Man and Lover given Death Sentence for Strangling Wife

Maseeh strangled his wife to death in her sleep

Pakistani man Nawaz Maseeh, of Rawalpindi, has been sentenced to death along with his lover for the murder of his wife.

In addition, they were each fined Rs. 500,000 (£2,700) for strangling Fauzia Bibi to death after she refused to allow her husband to get married for a second time.

It was heard that the murder took place during 2018.

During a hearing on Monday, April 8, 2019, the prosecuting lawyer Sardar Abdul Raazq told the court that Maseeh wanted to get married to his lover.

He explained his intention to his wife, but Fauzia, the mother of his four children, did not give him permission to tie the knot for a second time.

Despite pressuring her to let the marriage go ahead, Fauzia did not allow it. This led to Maseeh becoming more desperate to be with his lover.

During the evening of June 8, 2018, Maseeh strangled his wife to death in her sleep and dumped her body in an underground water tank before fleeing the scene.

After a missing person’s report was filed and Fauzia’s body was found, police began searching for Maseeh as they suspected he was connected to the murder.

He was with his mistress and both were arrested and were remanded in custody until their trial.

During the trial, the prosecutor pleaded to the court to hand them a strong punishment for the heinous crime they committed.

After concluding everything that was said, Additional District and Sessions Judge Ejaz Buttar found Maseeh and his lover guilty on April 9, 2019.

They both received the death penalty and are to remain in custody until then.

Both also received a fine of Rs. 500,000 (£2,700). Failing to pay the money will result in the convicts receiving an additional six months in prison.

There have been a number of cases involving a person murdering their spouse in order to be with their lover.

A mother-of-three was arrested in Islamabad for the murder of her husband so that she could be with her lover.

The woman’s husband, Danish Anthony, had been shot. She claimed to police that she didn’t know who was responsible for the murder.

It led to an in-depth investigation using modern policing techniques which led to the woman and an accomplice being arrested.

She admitted to the murder and said that she planned it with her friend, Afraz because she wanted to marry her lover.

The woman was taken into custody for the murder and a case was registering against her.
