A doctor was called and confirmed that the officer died.
An Indian cop committed suicide allegedly after having an argument with his wife. The incident happened in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, on August 10, 2020.
It was revealed that the deceased was an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) who had been married for just over a month.
Police identified the ASI as 37-year-old Tarun Pandey. It was reported that he used his service revolver to shoot himself in the head following an argument with his wife.
The shooting happened on the second floor of a four-storey police quarters building at around 4 pm.
Tarun’s wife had been with him when he shot himself. She immediately screamed for help.
Police officers from the neighbouring building rushed to the spot and transferred the critically injured officer to the Tata Main Hospital.
However, as they carried him down, Tarun collapsed. A doctor was called and confirmed that the officer died.
News of the incident spread quickly among the police and senior officers soon got involved. Senior Superintendent M Tamil Vanan and Superintendent Subhash Chandra Jat arrived at the scene.
SP Jat confirmed that it was a case of suicide. He said that ASI Pandey shot himself at his residence in front of his wife and later died.
Officers have said that they do not know for sure if the Indian cop had an argument with his wife or not. The reason for the suicide is being investigated.
SP Jat explained that they tried to talk to the wife, however, she was not in a state to speak as she was in shock over the incident.
He went on to say that the reason for the officer taking his own life will only be known once his wife gives a statement.
Officers have seized the gun that was used in the suicide.
However, another officer said that ASP Pandey and his wife got into a heated argument which left him upset. As a result, he shot himself.
It was revealed that ASP Pandey was newly married. He tied the knot at the end of June 2020 and had returned from Nalanda district in Bihar a week ago.
He had been in self-quarantine at his home with his wife.
Tarun was originally from Nalanda and was an athlete. He had originally joined the police force as a constable but due to his athletic background, he was promoted to ASI in 2019.
A case was registered and police are currently investigating.
