Karachi is set to host the 35th National Games of Pakistan, now officially rescheduled to take place from December 6 to 13, 2025.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah confirmed the new dates following a meeting with the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) delegation at CM House.

The event was originally planned for May 2025 but was postponed due to what officials called “unavoidable circumstances”.

With the revised schedule now in place, Karachi is preparing to take centre stage as the country’s leading sporting hub once again.

The provincial government has pledged full support for the games, aiming to organise the event in line with international standards.

Murad Ali Shah expressed strong backing for the initiative and emphasised the importance of making it a success.

To strengthen the infrastructure for the event, the chief minister announced the construction of a new swimming facility.

He also ordered the installation of modern electronic timing and scoring systems, aimed at improving the competitive environment for athletes.

Shah directed all departments involved to ensure that athletes receive adequate training support, medical services, transportation, and accommodation.

POA President Arif Saeed, who led the visiting delegation, praised the Sindh government for its commitment.

He said athletes across the country are looking forward to the games and that anticipation is already building.

During the meeting, he said: “The enthusiasm among sportsmen and women is noticeable, and we’re confident this edition of the National Games will be memorable.”

With just months to go, provincial authorities are under pressure to deliver an event that can reinvigorate the national sports landscape.

The National Games, which last took place in Quetta, serve as the biggest multi-sport event in Pakistan.

It features athletes from all provinces and major departments.

Despite these uncertainties, the National Games offer an opportunity to spotlight athletic talent and promote unity through sports.

With improved facilities and government backing, Karachi’s role as host city is once again reaffirmed.

Other ongoing domestic sports events have also been postponed in Pakistan.

This includes the President’s Trophy Grade-II and Inter-District U19 tournaments.

These competitions will resume later, and revised schedules are expected to be released in due course.
