Nawazuddin Siddiqui & Vir Das in line for International Emmys

Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vir Das are among the many nominees for the 49th edition of the International Emmy Awards.

Bollywood star Nawazuddin Siddiqui and comedian Vir Das are in the nomination line-up for the 49th edition of the International Emmy Awards.

Ram Madhvani’s Aarya has also been included in the nomination list.

The 49th International Emmy Awards will take place at Cash Cipriani in New York City on November 22, 2021.

The event will hand out awards in 11 categories for which nominees from 24 countries are in contention.

Three titles from India have been named in the nomination list for 2021.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui has been nominated in the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ category for Serious Men.

Directed by Sudhir Mishra, Serious Men is a satire based on the book of the same name by Manu Joseph.

Serious Men is streaming on Netflix.

In 2019, Nawazuddin received the award on behalf of the cast and crew of the crime drama McMafia.

Nawazuddin spoke about the joy of the nomination and said:

“The nomination for Serious Men has made me feel validated that I am not part of any rat race to win an award.”

The other nominees in this category are Roy Nik in Normali from Israel, Christian Tappán in The Great Heist from Columbia and David Tennant in Des from the UK.

The actor took to Instagram to share a picture of him with Sudhir Mishra ahead of the ceremony.

In the caption, Nawazuddin wrote:

“#SeriousMen was a dream project for many reasons and one of them was working with the great director Sudhir Mishra.

“It’s an honour to be nominated for the prestigious Emmys. I still cannot forget my last experience here.

“I’m overjoyed as this is my second time at the Emmys and that too with a Netflix title.”

Indian comedian Vir Das has been nominated for the Netflix comedy special Vir Das: For India.

In the comedy special, the comedian, who was recently embroiled in controversy over his ‘Two Indias’ act, celebrates India’s history.

Vir Das reacted to his nomination and said:

“I don’t expect to be served dinner on most nights. So I didn’t expect this.”

“But I am very excited to be nominated for Indian comedy.

“We did one Netflix show with one guy sitting in front of a blue door and then to get an Emmy nomination along with these other shows that have a $2-3 million budget!

“I didn’t expect it.”

The other nominees in this category are France’s Call My Agent, UK’s Motherland: Christmas Special and Colombia series Promesas de Campana.

The third nomination from India is Aarya, a crime thriller series directed by Madhvani.

Madhvani is also the director behind the recently released film Dhamaka starring Kartik Aaryan.

Aarya, which is an adaptation of the Dutch series Penoza, has been nominated in the Best Drama category.

Aarya is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Actress Sushmita Sen plays the titular role of Aarya Sareen and shares the screen with Chandrachud Singh, Namit Das and Sikander Kher.

The other shows nominated in this category are Chile’s El Presidente, Israel’s Tehran and the UK’s There She Goes Season 2.

Nigerian-American actress and comedian Yvonne Orji will present the award ceremony.
