Comedian Vir Das will become the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards, a role that has been hosted by the likes of Graham Norton and Alan Cumming.
The International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences confirmed Vir as the host of the 2024 ceremony, which will take place in New York City on November 25.
Vir took to Instagram to express his gratitude, stating:
“Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host. I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year!
“Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honoured and excited!”

Vir Das told The Hollywood Reporter:
“I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys.
“It’s a massive, prestigious night to uphold creators from around the world who are making the best content right now.
“I know first-hand how life-changing it can be.”
Bruce L Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming Vir Das to the event, adding:
“We’re happy to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy Host to his impressive list of talents.
“With his unique humour and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts who fit perfectly with our global audience.”
Vir’s hosting duties at the International Emmys mark a major milestone in his career.
He first rose to international prominence with his 2021 Emmy-nominated stand-up special, Vir Das: For India, a personal and humorous take on India’s culture, history, and politics.
This was followed by his 2023 International Emmy Award win for his Netflix special Landing.
Vir has also ventured into TV and film.
This includes the likes of ABC’s spy drama-comedy Whiskey Cavalier, thriller Hasmukh for Netflix, and the travel show Jestination Unknown for Amazon.
He starred in Judd Apatow’s Netflix feature The Bubble and is currently developing a single-camera comedy with CBS Studios and Andy Samberg.
Vir Das is currently on his international Mind Fool tour and featuring in Ananya Panday’s series Call Me Bae.
His talents also extend to music as he is the lead singer for India’s comedy-rock band Alien Chutney.
