It has been confirmed that Naughty Boy will join the soundtrack for the upcoming rom-com What’s Love Got to Do with It?
Studiocanal and Working Title Films announced on March 16, 2021, that the British-Pakistani musician is bringing his production and writing skills to the film.
In addition to being a musician, Naughty Boy is also a successful DJ, record producer and songwriter.
For What’s Love Got to Do with It?, Naughty Boy will be collaborating on original recordings.
The film is written by Jemima Goldsmith while Shekhar Kapur, who helmed Mr India (1987), is directing the flick.
Naughty Boy will be collaborating with a well-known Pakistani artist for the soundtrack.
It is not yet known who the artist is. Further details are set to be revealed closer to the film’s release in 2022.
On his work for the film, Naughty Boy said:
“It was an honour to be asked by Jemima and Shekhar to be a part of the soundtrack for What’s Love Got to Do with It? – my first step into the film music realm, and to be doing this with one of Pakistan’s biggest artists is a dream come true.
“As a composer, playing with instruments and grooves I wouldn’t normally has opened up this soundtrack to a universal sound which I am excited for everyone to hear.
“It will definitely get you dancing and the world really needs that right now!”
The film is a cross-cultural romantic comedy set in London and South Asia.
It stars Lily James, Shazad Latif and Emma Thompson in leading roles.
Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon and Asim Chaudhry also feature in What’s Love Got to Do with It?
Famed Pakistani actress Sajal Aly is also in the film. Her inclusion in the film had generated a lot of attention.
BBC journalist Haroon Rashid broke the news on January 13, 2021.
He had said: “It’s rumoured that Sajal Aly is currently in London shooting for Jemima Goldsmith’s production, What’s Love Got to Do with It? directed by Shekhar Kapur.
“The film also stars Emma Thompson, Lily James, and Shazad Latif.
“Sajal’s rep has been contacted for confirmation. Huge if true!”
It was reported that Sajal would be essaying a groundbreaking role in the upcoming film.
Jemima is co-producing the film with Nicky Kentish alongside Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan, who will produce under their Working Title Films banner.
In a statement, Studiocanal will release the film in the UK, France, Germany, Australia and New Zealand, and are selling the movie worldwide.
