"He has gone mad due to the glare of stardom"
Nana Patekar has landed in controversy after a video of him smacking a fan went viral.
The actor was dressed in a brown blazer and a hat, shooting for his next film in Varanasi.
In the video, a young man walks into the shot and tries to take a picture with Nana.
Nana then smacks the fan with force on the back of the head before a man standing next to the actor grabs him by the neck and drags him off the set.
As the fan is taken away, Nana points his finger at him.
The video circulated online and did not go down well among social media users.
Many slammed the actor for his actions, labelling him arrogant.
One person said: “In fact, we the common people have given the status of God to these actors and cricket players in India, so we have to be ready to get slapped and kicked by them.”
Another commented: “The man slapping a kid is the ridiculous Nana Patekar.
“He has gone mad due to the glare of stardom… in olden times, people who used to dance and sing for money to entertain were called scoundrels.”
A third added: “His facial expression says it all. We should treat these scumbags in the same manner.”
Calling for actors to stay humble, one user wrote:
“No matter how famous you are, how rich you are, stay humble and be kind to people.
“We are always impressed by the way someone treats other human beings, whatever the conditions or the circumstances we have to control our temper.”
Would this make Nana Patekar the most arrogant and angry celebrity? Or does someone else beat him to it?

However, some were sceptical of the video, believing that it was part of the film shoot.
One asked: “Or would it be a movie scene shoot?”
Another said: “Looks more like in the middle of a shooting set.”
Others wondered if the fan requested a picture in the middle of the shoot.
Believing the video might have been taken out of context, a user commented:
“Well, we are only seeing the slap.
“What if this guy jumped in between the shots being explained? It’s not right to judge before we know the whole story.”
“A chaiwala will also get angry if disturbed during his working hours. Think about it.”
Another said: “That’s a smack to the back of the head, not a slap. Huge difference.
“Also, the fan just straight up appeared next to him and started taking a selfie without permission.
“Maybe Nana could have reacted better but if he was shooting a movie scene then it can get disturbing.”
It is speculated that Nana Patekar is currently filming Journey as he recently announced production had begun.
