"I felt Chandni was the perfect fit for the role"

Veteran actress and dancer Mehbooba Mahnoor Chandni is set to make a long-anticipated return to television.

She is all set to appear in a special Eid-ul-Azha drama titled Tumi Ami O Shey.

Directed by Azizul Hakim, the production marks a significant moment.

Hakim is stepping behind the camera once again after years of focusing primarily on acting.

The script was penned by Hakim’s wife, renowned actress and director Zeenat Hakim.

The story revolves around a man who returns to Bangladesh from the United States and falls in love.

However, pressure from his family to marry someone from the US creates emotional tension and tests the strength of his personal convictions.

Speaking about his return to directing, Hakim explained:

“I’ve directed for many years, often juggling multiple projects at once.

“But direction demands full attention and responsibility – it’s like being the captain of a ship.”

While acting kept him in the public eye, directing required a different kind of commitment he had stepped back from, until now.

Hakim said the decision came naturally when casting Mehbooba Mahnoor Chandni.

He revealed: “I always try to work with actors from our era. The two of us maintain a long-standing understanding and chemistry.

“After reading the script, I felt Chandni was the perfect fit for the role, and her schedule matched.”

Chandni also expressed her excitement about returning under Hakim’s direction.

She said: “Working under Hakim bhai’s direction is always a great experience. The story is compelling and touches on themes of personal freedom.

“I no longer work just for the sake of being on screen. The script must be worth it.”

She will star opposite Abdun Noor Sajal, reuniting the pair after a significant gap.

Their on-screen presence has previously been well-received, and fans are eager to witness the dynamic again.

Chandni has had a celebrated career in both film and television. She made her debut with Dukhai in 1994 and went on to star in Lalsalu and Joyjatra.

Her journey in the arts began at just four years old, when she started dance lessons.

Trained in Bharatanatyam, modern, and Bangladeshi styles, she quickly rose to fame after winning the group dance in BTV’s Notun Kuri.

Mehbooba Mahnoor Chandni has received two national awards for best supporting actress.

Beyond acting, she is respected as a dancer and often travels abroad for performances.

Her return has sparked excitement among fans who have greatly missed her presence on television.

Tumi Ami O Shey promises a heartfelt story paired with the strong performances of a beloved cast.
