Bangladeshi film, Mastul, has earned a prestigious spot in the main competition of the 47th Moscow International Film Festival.

This makes it the second year in a row that a Bangladeshi film has been selected for this honour.

Directed by Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Mastul follows his earlier successful work on Aam Kathaler Chhuti.

It is set to represent Bangladesh at the upcoming festival, which will run from April 17 to April 24, 2025.

The selection of Mastul in the 47th edition of the Moscow festival is a significant achievement.

Nuruzzaman expressed his excitement over the news, sharing that the festival organisers had officially confirmed the film’s nomination through email.

He said: “It’s an honour to see Mastul competing at such a prestigious festival.”

The film’s team will travel to Moscow in mid-April to attend the event.

The official festival poster for Mastul, designed by renowned artist Dhruba Esh, was unveiled.

Mastul has already passed the Bangladesh Film Certification Board’s review without any cuts, making it suitable for all audiences.

It was approved for local release on March 24, 2025.

The film tells the story of sailors and dock workers, inspired by Nuruzzaman’s own experiences growing up in Narayanganj.

The region is known for its connection to both land and water.

Mastul features an ensemble cast, with celebrated actor Fazlur Rahman Babu portraying a ship’s cook.

Other key roles are played by Deepak Suman, Aminur Rahman Mukul, Shikdar Mukit, Julfikar Chanchal, and child actor Arif.

Produced by Cinemakar, Mastul‘s cinematography was handled by Mohammad Arifuzzaman, while Juboraj Shamim of Adim fame worked as the casting director.

Nuruzzaman took charge of the story, screenplay, editing, and sound design, while Tong Ghor Talkies managed the film’s promotion and digital distribution.

Following its screening at the Moscow International Film Festival, Mastul will have a scheduled release date in Bangladesh.
