Salman Khan is back with Bigg Boss 19. The new season comes with a fresh theme, Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar, where housemates hold the power.
JioHotstar released the official trailer. The video shows Salman dressed as a politician, stepping into a Parliament-style Bigg Boss house.
The setting signals a sharp shift in format and tone.
In the trailer, Salman says: “This has happened for the first time in 18-19 years.
“This time, Bigg Boss won’t be about crazy drama, but about democracy.
“Every small and big decision will be in the hands of the housemates. So housemates, do whatever you want to do, man, but be ready for the consequences and the public, because this time in Bigg Boss, it’s the Gharwaalon ki Sarkaar (housemates’ government).”
This new direction gives contestants more control than ever before.
According to the trailer, decisions inside the house will no longer be dictated by Bigg Boss. Instead, the housemates will govern themselves.
That doesn’t mean it’ll be smooth sailing. As always, viewers can expect explosive moments and high-stakes clashes.
Salman, who has hosted the show since 2010, shared his excitement in an official statement:
“Every Bigg Boss season is different, but this time, the tables have turned.
“Gharwalon Ki Sarkaar means the power is in their hands, and when people get power, their true faces are revealed.
“This time, the contestants have been given full authority to make their own decisions, but every decision comes with a consequence.
“I always say, play with dignity, but these people leave dignity behind and bring in drama.”
“This season, they’ll try to run the house their way, but when things go out of control, you know who’s coming back to set the record straight!”
The format shift could be a move to refresh the franchise. Viewership had plateaued in recent years, and the rise of streaming platforms has given audiences more reality show options.
By handing power to the housemates, Bigg Boss is inviting chaos in a new form.
The theme of democracy could also reflect a changing media landscape, where audiences prefer watching social dynamics unfold without overt interference.
The housemates are expected to be announced soon as Bigg Boss 19 gets underway from August 24, 2025.
