“I wish she had chosen acting as a career instead of politics.”

Several videos of Maryam Nawaz have surfaced on the internet, drawing criticism for what some perceive as staged encounters.

On her second day as Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz was observed interacting with a female police officer.

In a video, the officer’s scarf slipped off her head whilst demonstrating something on a computer screen to Nawaz.

Responding swiftly, Maryam Nawaz adjusted the officer’s scarf.

The caption accompanying the video lauded Nawaz’s act as a display of compassion and leadership qualities.

However, the footage has sparked intense debate among viewers.

Some have voiced discomfort, labelling the gesture as awkward and possibly invasive of the police officer’s boundaries.

One said: “I wish she had chosen acting as a career instead of politics.”

Another wrote: “What a stupid thing to appreciate her on. I consider it invading someone’s personal space.”

One asked: “How many episodes of this awful drama will we have to watch now?”

In another instance, she was seen distributing ‘Ramadan bags’ with Nawaz Sharif’s photo on them.

When asked why she was increasing the publicity of Nawaz Sharif using the public’s money she replied:

“Who has formed the government of Punjab? Nawaz Sharif.”

Afterwards, she left the scene. The public subsequently criticised her for her nonsensical reply.

A user asked: “Did you bring money in your dowry for printing Nawaz’s face over the bags? It is public money what a stupid answer.”

On another occasion, she was seen visiting a girls’ school, causing them to get confused.

Their principal told Maryam: “Girls get confused. They are from small unfortunate families. When they see so many males, they get confused.”

One user commented: “Maryam went there thinking she will get a good video of her interaction with kids to put it on social media, but this was just embarrassing.

“The principal was indirectly asking her to leave.”

Another asked: “The principal asked Maryam to remove the men from the room and she asked her to shut up?”

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, daughter of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, initially engaged in public service through her family’s philanthropic organisations.

However, her political career gained momentum in 2012 when she spearheaded the election campaign for the 2013 general elections.

Following her active involvement, she assumed the role of Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme in 2013.

Despite facing legal challenges and subsequent resignation in 2014, she persisted in her political endeavours.

In the 2024 Pakistani general election, she secured seats in both the National Assembly of Pakistan and the Provincial Assembly of Punjab.

Opting to serve as Chief Minister of Punjab, she made history as the first woman to hold this position in any province of Pakistan.
