"A moment of happiness for the family."
Preparations are underway for the wedding of Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, with ceremonies scheduled for mid-January 2026.
Family sources confirmed that the events will take place from January 16 to 18, 2026, spanning locations in Lahore and the Sharif family residence, Jati Umrah.
The mehndi ceremony will take place at Jati Umrah, keeping the celebrations intimate and within close family settings.
The Barat ceremony is reportedly scheduled to take place in Lake City, Lahore.
The Walima reception will again be held at Jati Umra, marking the conclusion of the wedding events.
Junaid Safdar’s bride-to-be is Shanzay Asghar, granddaughter of prominent PML-N leader Sheikh Rohail Asghar.
The marriage was formally fixed around two months ago.
Sheikh Rohail Asghar confirmed that the two families became acquainted through Junaid’s younger sister, Mahnoor Safdar.
Speaking about the engagement, Rohail Asghar expressed joy and said:
“When my son informed me of the proposal, I immediately termed it a moment of happiness for the family.”
He added that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif personally invited their family for dinner and extended warm hospitality, leaving a positive impression on their relatives.
Sheikh Rohail revealed that his wife, daughter-in-law, and Maryam Nawaz sat together to discuss wedding preparations in detail, ensuring smooth coordination.
The close relationship between the two families was highlighted, as Maryam Nawaz’s daughter, Mahnoor and Shanzay have shared a longstanding friendship.
Rohail Asghar noted that Maryam Nawaz had also visited his home along with her elder daughter and son-in-law, Raheel Munir.
The couple and their families have decided to keep the wedding private.
Reportedly, only close relatives have been invited to celebrate the joyous occasion.
Sheikh Rohail emphasised that a private and intimate gathering was preferred over a large public event, reflecting the families’ desire for simplicity.
It is noteworthy that Junaid Safdar was previously married in 2021 to Ayesha Saif, the daughter of businessman Saif-ur-Rehman Khan.
The extravagant wedding celebrations drew widespread attention. However, the marriage ended in October 2023.
Since then, Junaid has largely maintained a low public profile, focusing on his personal life.
The engagement between Shanzay Asghar and Junaid Safdar also underlines the longstanding political and social ties shared between the two families.
With preparations in full swing, the celebrations are expected to be filled with joy and moments reflecting the families’ close bond.
