"The families will mutually decide the dates for the nikkah"

Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is preparing to tie the knot for the second time.

His engagement to a member of the influential Shafi family has been confirmed.

The news was finalised during a private family gathering in Lahore, according to sources close to the Sharif family.

The Shafi family, long associated with former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, shares close personal and political ties with the Sharifs.

This new alliance between the two families marks an important personal milestone for Junaid.

His first wedding took place in 2021 when he married Ayesha Saif, daughter of Saif-ur-Rehman, a businessman with strong ties to Qatar.

Their marriage ended in October 2023, a development that Junaid publicly confirmed through social media.

The meeting to formalise the engagement took place at the Sharif residence in Model Town, Lahore.

Senior family members, including Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, were present, along with key members of the Shafi family.

While an official engagement date has not yet been announced, discussions during the gathering reportedly included early wedding plans.

A source said: “The rishta has been settled and the engagement will follow soon.

“The families will mutually decide the dates for the nikkah and engagement ceremony.”

Despite personal setbacks, Junaid has remained in the public eye.

He is recognised not just as a member of Pakistan’s most prominent political dynasty, but also as a high achiever.

Aside from family connections, Junaid is known for his impressive academic journey through some of the UK’s top institutions.

He earned a first-class honours bachelor’s degree in Politics from Durham University.

He then completed a master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020.

After that, Junaid pursued a second master’s in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL).

He capped his academic journey with a second bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge, graduating in 2022.

Altogether, Junaid holds two bachelor’s and two master’s degrees, all from prestigious universities across the United Kingdom.

Beyond academics, he is an accomplished polo player and has won several inter-university polo tournaments during his time in the UK.

Recently, he returned to Pakistan.

Since then, he has been seen publicly supporting his mother, Maryam Nawaz, as she assumes a more active political role as Punjab’s Chief Minister.

As engagement preparations begin, the news of Junaid Safdar’s new relationship has already drawn significant attention.

Given the high-profile nature of both families involved, the upcoming wedding is expected to be a major event in the country’s social and political circles.
