"I think publicly humiliating an officer like this is not right."
Iffat Omar has criticised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for publicly sacking a hospital staff member.
The Medical Superintendent (MS) of Lahore’s Mayo Hospital was dismissed during a televised visit of the Chief Minister.
Taking to X, Omar expressed disapproval over the manner in which the decision was carried out.
“Well I think publicly humiliating an officer like this is not right.
“Without listening to the person and proper investigation firing anyone that to on national television is not a right thing.”
During the visit on March 6, 2025, patients at Mayo Hospital voiced several complaints about the hospital’s management.
Frustrated by the grievances, the Chief Minister immediately ordered the removal of Dr Faisal.
However, later media reports revealed that Dr Faisal had already submitted his resignation three days before the visit.
Additionally, reports suggested that he had repeatedly requested funding from the Punjab government for hospital resources.
Despite continuous requests, he received no response and eventually, he decided to step down from his position.
Iffat Omar’s remarks sparked debate online, with many questioning the fairness of dismissing an official without an investigation.

Some argued that while healthcare conditions must improve, removing officials in such a public manner could discourage professionals from taking leadership roles.
Meanwhile, disciplinary action has been taken against three nurses from Mayo Hospital’s Chest Ward.
This follows reports of severe patient reactions to administered injections.
The Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department issued show-cause notices to the nurses.
The nurses, named Nazia Hassan, Sunaina Khalid, and Hafiza Saima Sahar, were accused of negligence in medication preparation.
According to official reports, 16 patients suffered complications after receiving the injections.
Authorities have demanded a written explanation from the nurses within a week, warning of further action if they fail to justify their actions.
The back-to-back controversies surrounding Mayo Hospital have highlighted ongoing issues within Punjab’s healthcare system.
The Punjab government is taking strict measures to address mismanagement.
However, critics argue that hasty decisions and the public humiliation of officials may not be the most effective way to bring lasting reforms.
As the debate continues, healthcare professionals and policymakers are urging for structured reforms, accountability, and proper investigations to ensure fair treatment.
