Hema had borrowed some money from Mr Abott.

A Non-Residential Indian (NRI) from Chuna Mandi in Paharganj, Delhi, was brutally murdered in Sonipat, Haryana. A police investigation has led to officers suspecting that his maid was responsible for his death.

According to police, 68-year-old Rajendra Abott lived in London but flew to his native home in Delhi in January 2020.

However, he could not return to London due to the lockdown as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, he had been staying at his home in Paharganj.

Police officers revealed that his mother died many years ago.

The case came to light when Mr Abott suddenly went missing.

A senior police officer said: “He went missing and a missing report was filed at Paharganj police station.”

It was revealed that on June 22, 2020, Mr Abott left for Sonipat. His housemaid Hema was with him at the time.

According to police, Hema took Mr Abott to Gohana where she conspired with several others to kill him.

Police officers said that Hema had borrowed some money from Mr Abott. When he asked for it to be repaid, the maid allegedly conspired to murder him.

It was reported that Hema was in an estranged relationship with her husband. For the past three years, she had been living separately from him.

Police in Haryana explained that the NRI was strangled to death. His hands and legs were tied up before his body was dumped in a drain.

Following the murder, the housemaid and her accomplices have gone on the run and the police are currently working to locate their whereabouts.

A senior police officer in Haryana explained:

“He was overpowered and strangulated in a vehicle and later his hands and feet were tied and his body was thrown in a drain.

“The killers wanted to make sure he doesn’t survive.

“The maid is absconding and our teams are working to find all those who were involved in the murder.”

Officers at Sadar Gohana Police Station were informed about the murder and quickly arrived at the scene. They recovered Mr Abott’s body from the drain.

A team of officers from Delhi travelled to Sadar Gohana Police Station where they discovered that the police there had performed the last rites of the victim.

Officers in Sonipat are currently investigating the murder case and searching for the maid’s whereabouts.
