"Lihaaf is a prestigious project"
The trailer for the award-winning film Lihaaf was released ahead of its premiere on July 31, 2021, on Voot Select.
From July 24, 2021, Voot Select kicks off its one-of-a-kind Voot Select Film Festival.
A variety of films will be showcased in this eight-day-long festival. This includes nearly 15 critically acclaimed films.
Director Rahat Kazmi will have two of his films premiering during the festival, Lines and Lihaaf.
The film is based on Ismat Chughtai’s controversial short story from 1942.
The story touches on the theme of alternate sexuality and gender equality in society.
Ismat’s short story was brought to life on the screen by Rahat Kazmi.
After the film was unveiled at Cannes Film Festival by Oscar winner Marc Baschet and veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai, it garnered a lot of media attention.
Lihaaf has also won 11 international awards. This includes the Best Actress Award won by Tannishtha Chatterjee in Mexico.
Director Rahat Kazmi exclusively told DESIblitz:

In addition to the awards, the talented film cast has received huge appreciation for their respective roles.
Tannishtha Chatterjee, who has worked in more than 50 films, plays the role of Ismat Chughtai, the writer of this intriguing story.
Meanwhile, Anushka Sen plays the role of young Ismat.
Anushka has more than 21 million Instagram followers and recently participated in the reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Sonal Sehgal plays the protagonist Begum Jan.
She made her film debut in the critically acclaimed Aashayein opposite John Abraham.
Sonal also co-wrote the script for Lihaaf with Rahat.
Other cast members include Mir Sarwar, who portrays the Nawab.
Singapore-based actress and producer Namita Lal will play Rabbo while Shoib Nikash Shah plays Manto.
Established Bollywood actor Virendra Saxena will also be seen playing an important role in the film and Rahat will play the role of Ismat Chughtai’s husband.
Produced by Rahat Kazmi, Tariq Khan, Zeba Sajid, Namita Lal, Umesh Shukla and Ashish Wagh, the film has been co-produced by Oscar-winning producer Marc Baschet.
Golda Sellam of Cinelink France, a film expert from Europe is a consultant on this project.
The period drama premieres on July 31, 2021, as part of the Voot Select Film Festival.
