A deepfake picture of Katrina Kaif is circulating on social media.
As the theatrical release of Tiger 3 approaches, one of the most anticipated scenes is a fight sequence between Katrina and Michelle Lee, who are both wearing just towels.
Katrina posted a behind-the-scenes picture of herself in the towel.
However, the image was doctored and shared on social media.
The deepfake features Katrina without the towel. Instead, the actress is dressed in a revealing white two-piece.
Her body has also been photoshopped, which includes her curves becoming noticeably more ample.
The fake image shows Katrina’s hands placed on them for a more sensual pose.
The picture prompted concern from social media users, who are worried over the growing prominence of AI being used to edit pictures and videos of women.
One user wrote on X: “Katrina Kaif’s towel scene from Tiger 3 gets morphed.
“Deepfake picture is garnering attention and it’s really shameful.
“AI is a great tool but using it to morph women is outright criminal offence. Feels disgusted.”
Another commented: “Deepfake is really scary! I need to take precautions I think!”
Cyber safety expert Akancha Srivastava tweeted:
“Unfortunately, this can happen to anyone with the motive of silencing, shaming, revenge, bullying.
“It is a traumatic experience but stay strong if you ever are the victim of it.”
“Report to police, collect evidence, take your loved ones into confidence.
“Remember you are not alone, there’s always help available.”
The viral image of Katrina Kaif comes just days after Rashmika Mandanna fell victim to deepfaking.
A video showed a woman entering a lift wearing a low-cut unitard.
But the woman’s face had been edited with Rashmika’s.
It was revealed that the woman in the original video was Zara Patel, a British-Indian woman with over 400,000 followers on Instagram.
Rashmika later broke her silence on the matter, tweeting:
“Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.
“Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends and well-wishers who are my protection and support system.
“But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how could I ever tackle this.
“We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft.”
