In April 2021, filmmaker Karan Johar announced Kartik Aaryan’s departure from his upcoming film Dostana 2.
Previous reports stated that Aaryan’s exit from the film came as a result of his unprofessional behaviour.
Rumours also circulated that his departure was due to low fees.
However, a report has revealed that Kartik Aaryan and his former co-star Janvhi Kapoor had a falling out during filming.
This could be the real reason for Aaryan’s exit.
According to a Times of India report, Aaryan and Kapoor had a fallout during filming for Dostana 2.
As a result, their friendship ended in January 2021.
The incident allegedly made Aaryan feel uncomfortable, and he became increasingly difficult on set.
The actor would reportedly procrastinate and deliberately avoid shooting.
Consequently, filming for Dostana 2 frequently got delayed.
According to sources, Kartik Aaryan told Dostana 2 director Collin D’Cunha that they should make something else entirely.
He also allegedly issued an ultimatum, saying he would continue filming Dostana 2 if they dropped Janhvi Kapoor.
Eventually, Karan Johal felt compelled to take control of the situation and came to the decision to drop Kartik Aaryan from the film.
Karan Johar’s production company Dharma Productions released a statement following Kartik Aaryan’s dismissal. The statement said:
“Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence – we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha.
“Please wait for the official announcement soon.”
According to Times of India, 60% of Dostana 2 is already complete, and a large sum of money has already been spent.
However, Johar was reportedly still willing to reshoot Kartik Aaryan’s scenes and increase the amount of money going into the film.
Now, Karan Johar is searching for a replacement for Aaryan’s role.
Several names are reportedly being considered, including the likes of Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra and Rajkummar Rao.
A source has claimed that Dharma Productions has already approached Kumar to join Dostana 2’s cast.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, the source said:
“(Filmmaker) Karan Johar has personally requested Akshay to come on board Dostana 2 and help him out, as lots of money has already been invested in the shoot of the film.
“So, in all likelihood, Akshay will join the cast.”
Dostana 2 is a romantic comedy that tells the story of a brother and sister falling for the same guy.
It is reportedly a sequel to Dostana (2008), which starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.
