It has been reported that Akshay Kumar has been asked to replace Kartik Aaryan in Dostana 2.
Kartik was dropped from Karan Johar’s production and the matter caused a lot of drama. Speculation arose as to who would replace the actor.
A source has now claimed that Dharma Productions have asked Akshay Kumar to join the film and save them from this “tricky situation”.
The source told Hindustan Times: “(Filmmaker) Karan Johar has personally requested Akshay to come on board Dostana 2 and help him out, as lots of money has already been invested in the shoot of the film.
“So, in all likelihood, Akshay will join the cast.”
The source added: “Karan is even ready to make changes to the script – which was earlier written keeping Kartik in mind – so that it fits Akshay’s character.”
Dharma Productions had previously released a statement on Kartik’s dismissal without mentioning any names.
The company stated that recasting would take place. The statement read:
“Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence – we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Collin D’Cunha.
“Please wait for the official announcement soon.”
While it was not revealed why Kartik was dropped from Dostana 2, a source claimed that it was due to Kartik’s unprofessional behaviour.
The source said: “Kartik is not part of Dostana 2 anymore and Dharma Productions will not be working with him again.
“After 20 days of shoot, he had issues with the script and felt that it was not okay.
“This was strange as he had gone through the script one to one and a half years back.”
The source also claimed that Kartik was repeatedly delaying the schedule, which was affecting his co-stars.
The source continued: “Dharma productions has been in touch with Kwan Talent Management Agency, who manages Kartik.
“But there was no reply for dates.”
Dostana 2 also stars Janhvi Kapoor and Laksh Lalwani. The romantic comedy is said to be about a brother and sister falling for the same guy.
It is believed to be a sequel to the 2008 film Dostana that starred Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.
There has been no confirmation by Dharma Productions or Akshay Kumar. Only time will tell if the rumours are true.
Throughout the controversy, Kartik Aaryan has kept quiet.
However, he posted a black and white picture on Instagram of himself wearing a mask.

Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar has numerous projects lined up.
His next film is Sooryavanshi which was set to release on April 30, 2021, but its release date has been postponed indefinitely due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Akshay’s film Ram Setu is currently in the filming stages.
