"She has always been arrogant."
A video went viral on social media which showed Jaya Bachchan getting annoyed at a Parliament chairman.
The veteran actress did not like the way he addressed her.
In the clip, the man alluded to Jaya and said: “Mrs Jaya Amitabh Bachchan Ji.”
Jaya shot back: “Sir, if you would have only called me ‘Jaya Bachchan’, that would have sufficed.”
The chairman replied: “That’s the full name on here which is why I repeated the same.”
Unsatisfied, Jaya said: “This is a new thing in which women are known by the names of their husbands.
“They have no identity of their own.”
The chairman repeated: “It was because your name was written here that way.”
However, Jaya sarcastically said: “No sir, they have no identity, do they?”
The user who posted the clip wrote on X: “It’s true that women should have their own identity.
“But her arrogance and the way she reacted…by the way, does she think she would be in parliament if she wasn’t the wife of Amitabh Bachchan?”
Jaya Bacchan got upset because the chairman addressed her as Jaya Amitabh Bacchan.
It’s true that women should have their own identity but her arrogance and the way she reacted.. Btw does she think she would be in Parliament if she wasn’t the wife of Amitabh Bachchan? pic.twitter.com/uNIINo7lGQ

Netizens were quick to call out Jaya Bachchan for her apparent rude behaviour.
One user commented: “Who would have known her if Amitabh Bachchan would not have married her?
“Rekhaji is far more beautiful than this khisiyani aunty.”
Another added: “She has always been arrogant.”
A third user said: “Jaya Bachchan’s blood pressure is always high.”
However, some people defended Jaya’s response to the chairman.
One person wrote: “She should be hired and represented on her merit.
“Not on her being an actor or her husband’s credentials.
“It will change but will take multiple decades.”
Another user said: “We may have our differences with Jaya Bachchan, but she is known as Jaya Bhaduri first and Jaya Bachchan later.
“She has had a very strong identity separate from her husband.
“In fact, there was a time when she was more known than her husband.”
“So she could have easily reached the Parliament, had she wanted to use her own name.”
Jaya started her career in Bollywood with Guddi (1971).
She married Amitabh Bachchan in 1973 and their children include the actor Abhishek Bachchan.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Amitabh was accused of having an affair with Rekha – something which they both denied.
In 1981, Amitabh, Jaya and Rekha starred in Yash Chopra’s Silsila which ironically showed Amitabh and Rekha having an affair onscreen while Amitabh and Jaya’s characters were married.
Jaya Bachchan was last seen in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023), where she played Dhanalakshmi Randhawa.
