"She is one of the most dignified women."

Kangana Ranaut is known for her outspoken and bold viewpoints. However, she is not the only such Bollywood actress.

The veteran actress and politician Jaya Bachchan has been criticised for her honesty and her alleged temper.

Past incidents have seen her rebuking paparazzi and media members who seemed to get invasive.

Kangana Ranaut spoke up in support of Jaya and said: “Jaya Bachchan is one of our most successful actors.

“Honestly, she is known for her temper, but at the same time, I would like to give her acknowledgement and due credit in those times.

“Can you imagine what times the 1970s were? In those times, she did films like Guddi. She gave the message of women’s empowerment.

‘I think she is one of the most dignified women in the industry. The way she carries herself in the Rajya Sabha.

“I feel very good that there is such good representation from the film industry.

“Jaya Bachchan is one of those rare actresses who has brought dignity to her craft.”

Jaya recently criticised Kangana Ranaut for comments she had made about drug use.

Addressing this, Kangana said: “I feel these are our elders. If they say something, it’s not bad.”

In 1973, Jaya married Amitabh Bachchan. They are parents to Shweta Bachchan-Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan.

In July 2024, Jaya was in the headlines when she got annoyed at a Parliament address towards her.

The chairman called her “Mrs Jaya Amitabh Bachchan”.

Jaya grew irritated and responded: “Sir, if you would have only called me ‘Jaya Bachchan’, that would have sufficed.”

The chairman replied: “That’s the full name on here, which is why I repeated the same.”

However, Jaya was unconvinced. She continued: “This is a new thing in which women are known by the names of their husbands.”

Jaya began her career in the early 1970s. She has starred in classics including Zanjeer (1973),  Sholay (1975), and Silsila (1981).

She was last seen in Karan Johar’s blockbuster Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023).

Meanwhile, Kangana Ranaut is currently trying to establish a release date for her directorial Emergency.

The film also stars Kangana as Indira Gandhi and is a biopic of the former Indian Prime Minister.

Emergency was scheduled to be released on September 6, 2024. However, it has been postponed due to not obtaining clearance from the censor board.

Kangana Ranaut is yet to announce a new release date for the film.
