"I still can’t believe I actually got in."
The Great British Bake Off returns to our screens on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, where 12 new bakers will go wild in the tent to win the grand baking prize.
The show will be presented by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond and judged by Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
The bakers are of different ages, races, backgrounds, and professions.
The Great British Bake Off throws several baking challenges at the contestants.
Each week will follow a different theme, including cakes, pastries, and bread.
The bakers face three challenges – a signature bake, a technical challenge, and a showstopper test.
Every week, an impressive contestant is crowned ‘Star Baker’, while at least one baker is sent home.
The upcoming series of the show comprises two bakers with South Asian roots – Dylan Bachelet and Sumayah Kazi.
Let’s find out more about them.
Dylan Bachelet
Dylan Bachelet is 20 years old and from Buckinghamshire. He works in retail and has recently completed a gap year travelling around Southeast Asia.
He loves immersing himself in different cultures.
He has an Indian mother and a Japanese-Belgian father.
Dylan’s bakes are inspired by Japanese cuisine and French pâtissérie chefs.
Dylan recalled the moment he discovered he was going to be in the tent.
He said: “I was in the car with my mum. We were driving to my grandma’s to celebrate her birthday.
“I was happy, and I didn’t really register it. My mum was super happy. The crew could hear her cry out.”
Sumayah Kazi
18-year-old Sumayah Kazi is a dentistry student from Lancashire.
Before she begins her dentistry studies in 2025, Sumayah chose to spend her break in The Great British Bake Off tent.
She is a self-taught baker looking to build up her skills and widen her impressive array of baking.
Sumayah is the youngest baker in the upcoming series, but her talent knows no bounds.
She is a keen sewer and even makes her own clothes.
Speaking of appearing in the show, Sumayah said: “Despite my disastrous audition, I had this inexplicable feeling that I would get into the tent.
“Not because I was confident in myself, but more a sense of impending fear.”
“I still can’t believe I actually got in – it’s unbelievable!
“I missed the phone call five times, so I was the last baker they notified.”
DESIblitz wishes Dylan and Sumayah the very best of luck!
The 2023 series of The Great British Bake Off saw Matty Edgell win the show.
The show returns to Channel 4 at 8 pm.
