"I made memories to last a lifetime!"

In an intense episode of The Great British Bake Off, Sumayah Kazi sadly became the sixth baker to leave the tent.

The latest episode of Channel 4’s baking competition aired on November 5, 2024, and saw the bakers tackle desserts.

For their signature bake, the contestants were asked to produce several meringue nests.

However, when it came to Sumayah’s nests, her flavours did not sit right with Paul Hollywood.

The technical challenge saw the bakers take on spotted dick, and not many were sure what it was supposed to look like.

While baking the dessert, Sumayah crucially forgot to add the sugar and struggled to take her spotted dick out of its case.

This resulted in her dessert becoming crumbly, and the pudding was stodgy and raw.

These mistakes caused her to come last in the ranking of the challenge. When placing her bake on the table, Sumayah was also visibly upset.

While discussing how the week was going, the judges mentioned that Sumayah could be in trouble.

The Great British Bake Off also demands a showstopper challenge.

For the dessert showstopper, the bakers were required to produce a tiramisu.

Sumayah opted to bake her tiramisu with lemon curd and coffee – something that left Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith surprised.

The judges were unsure whether Sumayah would be able to balance her flavours adequately, and this ultimately let her down when she presented her tiramisu.

These incidents led to Sumayah departing the tent. She spoke of how much she had learnt from her time in the competition and her fellow bakers.

Prue added: “I’m very sorry to see Sumayah go. She’s so talented and artistic. But we found a problem this week.”

In her farewell letter, Sumayah wrote:

“Well… what can I say? To all my fellow bakers who made the experience what it was, they’re my second family.

“We had the best laughs (and cries) together, and I can’t imagine life without you all now.

“Bake Off has been the most wonderful experience of my life, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.

“I still can’t wrap my head around it! It has truly changed my life for the better.

“I’ve gained a newfound sense of confidence, motivation, and friends for life.

“Leaving the tent certainly comes with a cohort of mixed emotions, but I am so proud of everything I managed to achieve (a Showstopper handshake was beyond my wildest dreams!).

“And I left the tent with the biggest smile on my face.

“Every day was so much fun, and I’m so happy to have shared my love of bakery and art with you all!

“Thanks for all the wonderful support across the world – that is truly CRAZY to me!

“My journey was cut short, but I made memories to last a lifetime!

“Thanks for allowing this dream of mine to come true. Love, Sumayah.”

Joining the show aged 18, Sumayah was the youngest baker in the current series of The Great British Bake Off.

During her time in the show, Sumayah won Star Baker twice and earned a handshake from Paul on one of her showstoppers.

She will undoubtedly be missed by fans and the rest of the bakers.

When the bakers were announced, Sumayah commented:

“Despite my disastrous audition, I had this inexplicable feeling that I would get into the tent.”

“Not because I was confident in myself, but more a sense of impending fear.

“I still can’t believe I actually got in – it’s unbelievable!

“I missed the phone call five times, so I was the last baker they notified.”

The Great British Bake Off returns for its quarterfinal on November 12, 2024.
