In a strange case, an Indian man has asked for a divorce over the fact that his wife has only been feeding him laddoos.

Within a household, a husband finding faults in what his wife has cooked is common but it seems to be justified for this man who has said he has only been fed the popular sweet for several months.

The resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, approached a family court requesting a divorce.

He claimed that his wife, under the influence of a shaman, has only been giving him laddoos to eat.

The man explained that he had been ill for some time so his wife approached a shaman.

She was told to give him only laddoos and he will soon recover. The woman decided to act on the instructions given to her.

Her behaviour drastically changed and she gave her husband four in the morning and four in the evening. He was not given anything else to eat in between.

It was ongoing and it made the Indian man extremely frustrated. He soon could not bear being served laddoos anymore and decided to request a divorce.

The couple had been married for 10 years and are parents to three children.

After the man filed for a divorce, officials at the family counselling centre were left confused over the man’s reasons and were unable to give positive advice.

One counsellor said: “We can call the couple for counselling, but we cannot treat the woman for being superstitious.

“She firmly believes that the laddoos will cure her husband and is unwilling to accept otherwise.”

This is not the first case of bizarre reasons for a divorce within India.

In Bihar, a man filed for divorce after his wife refused to take baths. It came to light after the woman had accused him of physically abusing her.

When the man appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW), he explained that her unhygienic lifestyle led to arguments despite only getting married in 2018.

The man told the NCW: “She does not have a bath, nor does she wash her hair.

“Her body gives off foul odours and hence I cannot stay with her. I want a divorce.”

He went on to say that his wife even contracted head life. The man said he gave her shampoo but she used it to wash the bedsheets.

The NCW managed to convince the couple to reconcile and will look at whether progress has been made on the marriage.

The NCW told them that if things did not work out, then further steps would need to be taken.
