A police case has been registered against an Indian husband after he murdered his wife.

The incident happened in the village of Gaddadob, Punjab.

It was reported that on May 22, 2020, the husband strangled his wife of six years to death following an argument.

The victim, Harsimarjeet Kaur, had been married to Jaswant Singh since 2014 and the couple had a son. However, there had been numerous arguments, resulting in panchayats making efforts to resolve the situation.

Gurmeet Kaur, the mother, explained that her daughter had called her to the house on May 22.

She and her husband arrived at their daughter’s house in the evening and saw that Jaswant had strangled her with a rope.

They tried to rescue Harsimarjeet but she later died. Meanwhile, Jaswant fled the scene. The matter was reported to the police.

Gurmeet Kaur revealed to police that Harsimarjeet was not her biological daughter.

She explained that she brought her up after adopting her from her sister-in-law.

In 2014, Harsimarjeet got married to Jaswant and they had a child. But Jaswant allegedly doubted his wife’s character.

Gurmeet said that in 2017, Jaswant shot his wife three times with his licensed gun. She suffered injuries but survived.

Gurmeet also alleged that Jaswant was abusive towards his wife, making videos of her being beaten up while forcing her to say that she had an illicit relationship.

On the day of the murder, Gurmeet received a phone call, telling her to go to Harsimarjeet’s house.

When Gurmeet and her family arrived, they saw that the Indian husband had strangled his wife.

While Jaswant fled, the family tried to help Harsimarjeet. She said that her husband had brutally beaten her. Shortly after, she succumbed to her injuries.

Officer-in-charge Ranjit Singh said that when he and officers arrived at the scene, they saw that the victim was beaten before she was killed due to the bruises she had on her body.

Police recovered the rope that was used to strangle her.

Officer Singh said that action has been taken based on the statement of Gurmeet.

The victim’s body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem. Officer Singh added that more information regarding the incident will come to light once the post-mortem results have been released.

A case under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Jaswant.

Officer Singh stated that the accused has fled but will be arrested as soon as possible.

The victim’s aunts Surjit Kaur and Tai Kulwinder Kaur revealed that Jaswant’s behaviour took a nasty turn after his marriage.

When Harsimarjeet confronted him about it, he would beat her up.

Jaswant had wrongly suspected that his wife was having an affair. This would result in frequent arguments and violence.
