An Indian father was arrested on Friday, December 13, 2019, for killing his wife. The incident happened in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
It was revealed that he believed that his wife was having an affair. When he caught her talking on the phone, he felt that his suspicions were confirmed.
Following an argument, the man bludgeoned his wife to death with a gas cylinder.
The man was arrested after informing the police about what happened.
Police identified the man as Prahlad Yadav, while the victim was named as Tara Yadav alias Pinky.
The couple had been married since 2015 and have a two-year-old child together.
It was revealed that Prahlad and Pinky regularly argued as he was suspicious of her “character”, believing that she was having an extramarital affair.
Prahlad told police that he would quarrel with his wife on most days.
On December 12, 2019, the couple had a row about Pinky’s suspected infidelity.
However, later that night, Pinky was on the phone and Prahlad saw her. It is unclear who she was talking to.
Upon seeing his wife on the phone, the Indian father thought that his suspicions had been confirmed and an argument broke out. The row led to Prahlad becoming enraged.
In a fit of anger, he picked up a five-kilogram gas cylinder and struck his wife over the head with it, killing her.
After killing Pinky, Prahlad realised what he had done and sat with his wife’s body overnight.
The next morning, he went to Civil Lines Police Station and confessed to murdering his wife.
Officer Sushanto Banerjee explained that Prahlad entered the station at around 8 am and explained what happened.
The officer admitted that he was surprised by what he heard but then Prahlad took him and other officers to his home where his wife’s lifeless body was lying.
Prahlad told officers that there was only one phone in the house and she had been on it for a long period of time. He said that he thought his wife was having an affair and that the phone call confirmed his suspicions.
Prahlad then said that in the heat of the moment, he picked up a gas cylinder and hit his wife with it.
Police arrested Prahlad, while the body was taken for a post-mortem. Forensic investigators arrived at the scene to collect evidence.
Officer Banerjee said that the investigation is continuing. He added that both sets of families have been informed.
