The woman stole the phones while she was a passenger
Police arrested an Indian couple after they committed dozens of phone robberies in Delhi.
Their robberies were described as ‘Bunty-Babli’ style, named after the fictitious Bollywood couple.
It was reported that the husband and wife had been riding on a white scooter when carrying out the robberies in Central Delhi.
After the police heard about the reports, a team was led by Inspector Madhukar Rakesh and was supervised by ACP Omprakash Lekhwal.
They investigated the robberies and worked to arrest the couple.
After an investigation was launched, police found out that they had been stealing mobile phones. The woman stole the phones while she was a passenger on the scooter.
Hundreds of documents which showed the same modus operandi were analysed, however, officers could not find substantial evidence.
The police then started to collect and analyse CCTV footage of the crime scenes as well as the escape routes used by the Indian couple.
Footage from one CCTV camera showed one couple, however, officers could not identify their faces due to the poor resolution.
Officers were able to see the couple’s physical stature. Police subsequently launched a search for them.
They later received information which revealed that a couple from the Paharganj neighbourhood of Delhi were behind the robberies.
Police were able to locate the husband and wife. The criminals were arrested in Railway Colony Kishan Ganj. Officers also recovered the stolen property.
The man was identified as 22-year-old Arjun while his wife was named Vaishali Kaushal, residents of Multani Dhanda, Paharganj.
Officers recovered four mobile phones. They also took the scooter which was found to have been stolen.
DCP Sanjay Bhatia said:
“We seized four stolen mobile phones and a stolen scooter from the couple.”
“Arjun, who was previously involved in over 31 crimes, used to ride the scooter, while Vaishali rode pillion and snatched mobile phones from pedestrians.”
It was revealed that Arjun was a prominent criminal in Central Delhi and was known to the authorities. He has previously been involved in 31 criminal cases and is a drug addict.
He married Vaishali sometime in February 2020. She works as a tattoo artist and is also a drug addict.
In order to fund their drug addiction, they stole the scooter in Raghubir Nagar before they started stealing mobile phones.
In most cases, Arjun would ride the scooter while his wife would snatch the phones from unsuspecting victims.
It was revealed that Vaishali even stole a mobile phone which belonged to an on-duty security guard named Karol Bagh.
