“It is truly a much-loved film and has huge nostalgia"

Bunty and Babli are back once again to con the nation but this time they are joined by another duo for the upcoming film Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020).

The forthcoming film is the sequel to the 2005 crime comedy film Bunty Aur Babli starring Rani Mukherji and Abhishek Bachchan as the infamous duo.

However, Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020) brings some new faces to the film. Saif Ali Khan will be seen taking on the role of Bunty alongside Rani Mukherji who is back to reprise her role as Babli.

The sequel will reunite Saif and Rani after 11 years. Previously, the pair were seen in the blockbuster Hum Tum (2004).

They were last seen together on the big screen in the film, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic (2008).

Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020) will also feature Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari as the “new Bunty Aur Babli”.

The film will be produced by YRF and directed by Varun Sharma. The filmmakers took to Twitter to announce the release of the film.

Varun Sharma has previously worked with YRF as an assistant director on films like Sultan (2016) and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017). He said:

“For (the) whole of India, Bunty Aur Babli (2005) is and will always be part of cinema that we watched while growing up.

“It is truly a much-loved film and has huge nostalgia value attached to it. When we were designing the logo of ‘Bunty Aur Babli 2’, we were certain that we will keep the original logo as it pays perfect homage to the first film that is part of India’s pop culture history.

“I’m guessing this movie will be much-loved by cine-lovers as it evokes a big sense of nostalgia.”

Despite Rani reprising her role as Babli, Bunty will be given a fresh new face as Saif takes on the titular Bunty.

Speaking of Abhishek’s absence in the upcoming film, Rani Mukherji explains how things “didn’t work out for him.” She said:

“The original Bunty Aur Babli (2005) got tremendous love and appreciation from audiences and it is their love that has made YRF decide to make the sequel.

“Abhishek and I were both approached by YRF to reprise our roles as the originals in Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020). But unfortunately, things didn’t work out with him and we will miss him dearly.

“As a team, we are so happy to welcome Saif. I have lovely memories of working with him. I’m really looking forward to creating something new and exciting with him in Bunty Aur Babli 2 (2020).”

According to the filmmakers, the film will be seen taking a time leap of a decade.

Bunty Aur Babli 2 is scheduled to hit the big screen on June 26, 2020.
