“This is such a strange and ignorant nation.”

Hira Tareen opened up about receiving death threats following her portrayal of Mehreen in Ishq Murshid.

Appearing on the YouTube show Something Haute, Hira shared her experience of how the audience reacted to her antagonistic character.

During the interview, Hira expressed frustration towards viewers who couldn’t distinguish between a character and an actor.

She mentioned that she faced backlash due to her negative role in the drama.

Hira read hateful YouTube comments aimed at her character.

It made her feel that some people in the country struggle to separate actors from their roles.

Despite the negativity, Hira noted that some positive comments were appreciative of her performance.

Regarding the threats she received, Hira recalled receiving messages implying consequences if she were to venture outside without proper security measures.

She mentioned receiving death threats and disclosed that the threatening accounts had no followers or photos.

She said that it indicated that they were likely created solely for that purpose.

Although initially scared, Hira Tareen found solace in the warmth and appreciation she received from the public when encountered at the airport.

People expressed admiration for her acting skills and praised her performance in the drama.

She further elaborated on the mixed reactions she received from viewers, highlighting the disparity between online hate and real-life appreciation.

Moreover, Hira Tareen emphasised the need for people to understand the distinction between actors and the characters they portray.

She stressed that actors merely play roles and should not be judged based on the characters they depict.

However, she remained grateful for the support she received from genuine fans.

One user said: “Pakistani people are a little (a lot) emotional.”

Added another: “This is such a strange and ignorant nation.”

One said: “This is so sad. Sending lots of love to Hira.”

Another noted:

“Pakistanis are literally insane. Such illiterate behaviour. I am beyond shocked.”

One suggested: “Tareen is a Pashtun tribe. You are receiving threats because of Pashtun ethnicity.”

One argued: “Oh please it is just a publicity stunt on her part to draw attention towards herself.”

Another said: “Just because someone gave her a small role in a drama she thinks she is important. So full of herself. Her face looks like a turnip.”
