“Nobody seemed to care about social distancing. It was wild!”
Turkish actor Engin Altan Düzyatan, who gained international fame in Dirilis: Ertugrul, recalled wild fan moments in Pakistan.
With over 5.2 million followers on Instagram, Engin remains a beloved figure in Pakistan, where his connection with fans runs deep.
In an interview, Engin reflected fondly on his first visit to Karachi during the Covid-19 pandemic, including a memorable moment shortly after he arrived.
He recalled: “I had just reached Karachi and was settling into my room when a group of people suddenly walked in.
“I told them, ‘This is my room’ but they just said, ‘Yeah, yeah, come, come – we’re here for photos!’
“Nobody seemed to care about social distancing. It was wild!”
He also expressed surprise at how casually people treated the pandemic.
Engin continued: “Many believed Covid-19 was a lie, saying no one was dying from it. And strangely enough, no one seemed to be.”
One particularly intense experience happened when Engin visited a well-known mosque in Pakistan.
While greeting the Imam, the crowd quickly swelled to around 4,000 or 5,000 people.
Without any security in place, the situation became chaotic, and the national guards had to step in to escort him to safety.
Despite the overwhelming scene, Engin was deeply touched by the warmth and affection shown by the crowd.
Fans in Pakistan have flooded social media with praise for Engin’s graciousness.
They especially applauded him for not bringing up his unpleasant experience with TikToker Kashif Zameer.
Kashif had reportedly deceived Engin during a previous visit by signing a $1 million deal but delivering only a bounced $5,000 cheque.
Engin came to Pakistan to finalise his role as brand ambassador for the Chaudhary Group of Industries.
However, Kashif failed to fulfil any part of the agreement.

“He did not pay even half the amount agreed upon. I no longer have any association with Kashif Zameer.”
Many Pakistanis expressed relief and respect that Engin did not mention the incident in his recent remarks.
One fan wrote: “A true gentleman for not mentioning Kashif Zameer.”
Another commented: “We’re sorry that happened, but Pakistan loves you, Engin!”
The strong bond between Pakistan and Turkish entertainment remains evident.
Engin Altan Düzyatan’s humble and witty reflections on his experiences in Pakistan have only strengthened this connection beyond his iconic role.
