"This doesn’t mean he would attack."
As Bollywood continues to mourn Dharmendra’s death, condolences have been pouring out to Hema Malini and Sunny Deol.
Sunny is Dharmendra’s older son, while Hema is the late actor’s second wife.
Hema and Dharmendra tied the knot in 1980, while the latter was still married to Sunny’s mother, Prakash Kaur.
At the time, it was reported that Sunny was not pleased with his father’s second marriage, and his anger drove him to attack Hema.
However, these rumours were debunked by Prakash, who asserted that her son would never harm anyone.
She said: “This is not true. Every kid wants his father to love his mom the most in the entire world.
“But this doesn’t mean he would attack if there is another woman who loves his father as well.
“I am not well-read or educated, but my kids believe I am the most beautiful woman in the entire world.
“I have raised my kids well, and they have inculcated good manners.
“I am very sure they will never do anything that hurts someone.”
Prakash Kaur never blamed her husband for marrying another woman.
She said: “Any man would have chosen Hema over me.”
Despite this, things were not always smooth between Sunny Deol and Hema Malini.
They allegedly did not speak for over a decade after Dharmendra married the actress.
According to her authorised biography, Beyond The Dream Girl (2017), things thawed between Sunny and Hema on the sets of the latter’s directorial venture, Dil Aashna Hai (1992).
The film starred the likes of Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Dimple Kapadia, Amrita Singh, Divya Bharti, and Shah Rukh Khan.
At the time of the film’s production, Sunny and Dimple were reportedly close.
The Gadar star allegedly visited the sets to speak to Hema about Dimple’s safety.
Hema and Dharmendra also did not live together during their marriage, as Hema wanted to respect Prakash Kaur.
Along with Sunny, Dharmendra and Prakash are parents to Bobby Deol, Ajieta Deol, and Vijeta Deol.
Hema and Dharmendra share two daughters – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.
In August 2023, Hema addressed rumours of a rift among the Deol family.
She explained: “Many times, they keep coming home and all, but we do not publish it anywhere.
“We are not the type to take pictures and immediately put them up on Instagram.
“We are not that kind of family and are all very much together, always together.
“Any problem, and we are always together with each other.
“So, the press got it, and it is nice, they are happy about it, and I am also happy.”
Dharmendra and Hema Malini starred in many successful films together, including Sholay (1975), Dream Girl (1977), and Rajput (1982).
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89.
On the professional front, Sunny Deol will next be seen in Border 2.
He also has projects, including Gabru, Lahore 1947, and the Ramayana series, coming up.
