After the crash, Khan fled the scene

Mohammed Sullaiman Khan, aged 28, of Wolverhampton, has been jailed for 13 years for causing the deaths of two young brothers in a crash.

He was behind the wheel of a high-powered Audi A3 and was allegedly “racing at catastrophically high speeds” when it struck a BMW on Birmingham New Road in March 2019.

Inside the BMW were Sanjay and Pawanveer Singh, and their mother.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Khan was travelling at 92 mph in a 40 mph zone just 110 metres before the impact.

Prosecutors also said Khan ran a red light as their mother Arathi Nahar was turning right, at the road’s junction with Lawnswood Avenue.

The brothers, aged 10 and 23 months, died at the scene while Ms Nahar was left with serious back injuries.

After the crash, Khan fled the scene and just an hour later, he was captured on camera ordering food at Slamburger on Birmingham’s Ladypool Road.

During the trial, prosecutors said family and friends “hatched a plan” following the tragedy to “cover-up” Khan’s involvement.

Khan’s lawyer brother Mohammed Adil Khan denied conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Rashane Henry and Mohammed Asim Khan denied the same charge.

On December 12, 2023, Khan, who previously admitted two counts of death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving, was jailed for 11 years.

He was also jailed for two years, to run consecutively, having also admitted perverting the course of justice.

Upon his release, he will be banned from driving for seven years.

Mohammed Asim Khan received an 18-month prison term, suspended for two years after being found guilty of perverting the course of justice.

Detective Constable Karl Davies, of West Midlands Police’s serious collision investigation unit, previously said:

“Our duty was to Sanjay and Pawanveer and to their family, who have been so brave throughout.

“It is awful, almost beyond words, for two young brothers to be killed in such a dreadful collision.”

The court heard a statement from Ms Nahar which described how her life had changed since the death of her “beautiful” boys.

She said her sons gave her joy and a reason to wake up each morning.

The statement read: “My house, my life and I died on March 14 2019. Every birthday and Christmas, I feel I am not able to function because the trauma is unbearable.

“My sons’ lives were taken in a horrific way and there is no coming back from that.”
