"This part is painfully familiar."
Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury has officially begun filming his latest Tollywood project, Shekor, directed by renowned filmmaker Bratya Basu.
The film recently went on floors in Birbhum, Kolkata, and recently, Chanchal joined the cast to start shooting.
Shekor draws inspiration from two poignant short stories by iconic Bengali author Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay – Drabmoyeer Kashibash and Dadu.
The film delves into the quiet lives of elderly men and women from two distinct rural communities, exploring their loneliness, love, and memory.
Veteran actor Loknath Dey plays the ageing man, while acclaimed Indian actress Seema Biswas portrays the elderly woman at the heart of the story.
Chanchal plays the role of the old man’s son, a character who struggles with the emotional weight of caring for his father.
Poulami Basu has been cast as Chanchal’s on-screen wife, adding another dimension to the story’s emotional family narrative.
Chanchal revealed that the character reminded him of his own late father, who suffered from dementia.
He shared that the father-son relationship in Shekor mirrors his personal experiences and left a strong emotional impact on him.
Chanchal said: “My character’s father forgets everything within minutes. This part is painfully familiar.
“I have lived that life. When I read the script, I saw my own father in the pages.”
Chanchal also spoke about the joy of collaborating with Bratya Basu, calling him one of the most comforting directors he has worked with.
He described Bratya as someone who brings both artistic depth and emotional sensitivity to every frame he creates.
Reflecting on the rural setting of the film, Chanchal said that Birbhum’s villages feel like a return to his own roots.
He confessed: “Even though I live in Dhaka now, I still feel like a village boy when I walk these paths.”
Riding bicycles through narrow village roads brought back a flood of childhood memories for the actor, who found the experience deeply moving.
Shekor features a strong ensemble cast including Ambarish Bhattacharya, Riddhi Sen, Angana Roy, Anasuya Majumdar, Anujay Chattopadhyay, and Narayan Goswami.
The film is being produced by Firdausul Hasan and is currently scheduled for a theatrical release in March 2026.
With a narrative grounded in rural life, memory, and generational bonds, Shekor promises to be an emotionally layered cinematic journey.
