"I felt that the scenes would work better with songs."
Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury has added a new milestone to his career by stepping into playback singing.
Known widely for his acting versatility, Chanchal has long been recognised for his singing at cultural programmes and public events.
Audiences frequently request him to sing, and he has often impressed listeners with covers of well-loved classic songs.
That familiarity with music has now translated into a formal cinematic debut as a playback singer in Tollywood.
Chanchal Chowdhury has lent his voice to Shekor, a new film directed by Bratya Basu.
This marks the first time the actor has officially recorded songs for a feature film soundtrack.
The production house Friends Communication confirmed the development through a social media post.
They revealed that Chanchal recorded not one but two songs for the upcoming film.
Alongside the announcement, the company shared studio photographs showing Chanchal rehearsing with music director Prabuddha Banerjee.
In their post, the producers wrote: “Shekor is an eternal love story by Bratya Basu.”
They further added that post-production work on the film is currently progressing at full pace.
The note also confirmed: “With this film, Chanchal Chowdhury has recorded multiple songs under the musical arrangement of Prabuddha Banerjee.”
The production house described the project as his official debut as a playback singer in Tollywood cinema.
Speaking to Ajker Patrika, Chanchal shared details about the songs he recorded for the film.
He explained that both tracks are re-recordings of traditional Baul songs with deep emotional resonance.
One of the songs is Bijoy Sarkar’s ‘Ei Prithibi Jemon Ache Temni Thik Robe’.
The other track is Gostho Gopal Das’s ‘O Jibon Re Chhariya Na Jao More’.
Chanchal revealed that the idea to include these songs actually came from him during filming.
Recalling the moment, he said: “While we were shooting, I felt that the scenes would work better with songs.”
He added: “I asked the director whether any songs would be used there.”
When Bratya Basu agreed, Chanchal proposed the two Baul numbers himself.
According to the actor, the director accepted the suggestion on one clear condition.
“He decided to include both, but on the condition that I would sing them myself.”
He further explained that the recordings were completed after the film’s dubbing process finished.
Shekor is adapted from two short stories by Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, titled Drabomoyir Kashibas and Dadu.
In the film, Chanchal plays Indra, a factory worker caring for a father suffering from memory loss.
The role carried personal significance for the actor due to his own father’s similar illness before passing.
Chanchal Chowdhury has said this emotional connection strongly influenced his decision to join the project.
This film also marks his first collaboration with Bratya Basu as a director.
The shooting of Shekor was completed in October 2025.
With music rooted in folk tradition and a story anchored in memory and love, Shekor is slated for release in 2026.
