"Fancy cleaner in India."
Two Brazilian influencers faced criticism from social media users after they posted a video of an Indian woman cleaning a street while wearing a saree.
Livia and Deni Lancaster Pontes are twin sisters who are DJs under the name Gemeas Lancaster.
They are in India to perform but during their travels, they took a video of an Indian woman cleaning the street.
The woman was dressed in a purple saree whilst mopping a staircase outside a building.
The twins secretly recorded her under the pretext of taking a photo and were heard commenting on her look in Portuguese. However, the cleaner noticed the phone recording her.
She appeared confused as to why she was being filmed.
The woman gave awkward glances whilst doing her job.
They captioned the video: “Fancy cleaner in India.”
The video garnered over two million views and many Indians flooded the comments section, criticising the Brazilian influencers for filming the cleaner and mocking them for sounding ignorant.
One commented: “That’s a saree that she is wearing as traditional attire for women in India.
“But it’s purple in colour because it’s her uniform. It is normal clothing in India.
“Women wear sarees in their everyday life.”

Blasting the sisters for filming the woman without consent, a user said:
“It is ethically and legally wrong to film someone without their consent.
“Sharing that footage on social media without their permission further invades their privacy.
“Everyone has the right to control how they are recorded and represented, and disregarding this is both disrespectful and unacceptable!”
Another angry person wrote: “Is education illegal in Western countries in what? How come you get that lady filming merely for some views?”
Wondering what the sisters’ intention was, a comment read:
“What’s wrong if a cleaner wears fancy clothes? What do you want to prove here?”
Another posted: “The saree is a symbol of grace and tradition, just like your attire reflects your culture. Respect for diversity makes the world beautiful.
“At least my culture teaches grace and elegance—yours seems to struggle with basic respect.”
Others turned their attention to the outfits typically worn by the sisters, which consists of bikinis, shorts and figure-hugging dresses.
One person replied: “She is looking amazing and it’s normal to wear a saree everyday. Not like you who roam nude.”
Another said: “She is a queen. Not like exposing your body for attention.”
A third said: “She is dressed better than you.”
