Nandekar allegedly spiked her drink which made her feel dizzy
A 52-year-old Indian man has been arrested after he allegedly raped a Brazilian woman, aged 19.
Padmakar Nandekar ran a charitable institution in Mumbai. On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, police said the woman had been at the institution to study as part of a youth exchange programme.
The alleged incident took place in April 2019 but it came to light on May 20, 2019, when the young woman filed a rape complaint against him.
A police official said the Brazilian woman had arrived in India a few months ago and was studying at Nandekar’s institution.
It was heard that the suspect ran a charitable organisation and is also the chairman of a residents’ association in the Cuffe Parade area of South Mumbai.
In her complaint, the student said Nandekar had invited her for dinner at a hotel on April 15, 2019.
During the meal, Nandekar allegedly spiked her drink which made her feel dizzy and he took her to a room he had booked. It is believed he then raped her.
The next morning, the woman realised what had happened.
She later went back to her local guardian’s house in suburban Bandra. However, she did not speak about the alleged rape.
The young woman eventually told her guardian about her ordeal. Subsequently, both of them went to the Cuffe Parade police station on May 20 and lodged an official complaint.
Later that evening, Nandekar was arrested at his home and booked under the relevant sections for rape under the Indian Penal Code.
On May 21, he was produced before a local court where they remanded him in custody until May 24.
Currently, the police are carrying out a further investigation into the case.
In a similar incident, a Pakistani teacher was arrested for attempting to rape his eight-year-old student.
Akhtar Hussain ran lessons from his home in Punjab. The girl had gone to his house for lessons.
During one lesson, Hussain allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl but stopped after she started to scream.
Hussain threatened the girl with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. When the girl returned home, she told her family about the attempted sexual assault.
The victim’s mother went to Hussain’s house and saw that the mothers of the other students were also there.
They claimed that Hussain had sexually assaulted their sons and daughters in the past. They had kept quiet as he had threatened them not to speak about it.
A police complaint was later registered and Hussain was arrested. An investigation was underway to find out how many potential victims were there.
