"You will hear an audio of how she was stripped of her freedom"
The daughter of Swiss billionaire Pankaj Oswal, Vasundhara Oswal, has been allegedly detained in a Ugandan prison since October 1, 2024, without trial.
An audio clip of the 26-year-old’s last phone call during her detention was released.
Vasundhara has spent nearly three weeks in prison.
According to her family, she faces murder charges, despite the individual she was accused of kidnapping and murdering was found alive in Tanzania under state custody.
In the disturbing audio clip, Vasundhara could be heard crying:
“They are taking my phone. They are taking my phone.”
Her sister Ridi explained that the audio clip captured Vasundhara speaking after 90 hours in custody, revealing she was denied a phone call and held illegally despite possessing an unconditional release order.
On Instagram, Ridi shared the recording and wrote:
“You will hear an audio of how she was stripped of her freedom and denied a single phone call, even though she was being illegally held, this audio was taken when she was 90 hours in and had an unconditional release order.”
The individual who was allegedly kidnapped was arrested by Tanzanian authorities.
Ridi said that when he was arrested, the man was holding his passport, confirming that he travelled voluntarily, with no evidence of abduction or mistreatment.
But despite these facts, Ugandan officials continue to ignore the truth, keeping Vasundhara imprisoned without justification.

Vasundhara’s family members continue to express their anguish.
Ridi explained how her sister built a factory from scratch, turning a piece of land into an industrial hub that now supports over 400 local families.
She emphasised that the allegations against Vasundhara have no basis and appear to be part of an extortion scheme by Ugandan officials seeking bribes in exchange for her release.
The Oswal family also revealed its impact on Vasundhara’s health.
Forced to stay in unsanitary conditions, she has been sleeping on the floor in overcrowded cells, without access to clean drinking water or adequate hygiene facilities.
Her underlying health issues have made her especially vulnerable under these circumstances.
An appeal was filed with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD). The WGAD, an expert body focused on addressing police abuses and wrongful imprisonment, is now involved.
Vasundhara’s brother described the situation as a result of corporate envy, alleging that a 68-year-old business rival in Uganda used his connections within the police force to orchestrate her detention.
The rival was reportedly threatened by Vasundhara’s rapid success in developing the largest ENA plant in East Africa within just three years.
Vasundhara Oswal is the daughter of Swiss industrialist Pankaj Oswal and his wife Radhika Oswal.
Pankaj Oswal is the son of industrialist Abhay Kumar Oswal, founder of Oswal Agro Mills and Oswal Greentech. The Oswal Group Global has interests in petrochemicals, real estate, fertilisers, and mining.
