"Your scars are now poetry for us to read."
Canadian actor and writer Avan Jogia is offering fans a raw and introspective glimpse into his life with his latest poetry collection, Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob).
Known for his role as Beck Oliver in Victorious, Jogia’s new book explores the complexities of fame, love, and self-discovery through vivid and unfiltered verse.
Described as a “biting postmortem of the modern age,” the collection delves into Jogia’s experience of growing up in the limelight.
He rose to fame as a teen idol during the early days of social media, a time when online stardom was still uncharted territory.
Reflecting on his journey, the actor-turned-writer examines the pressures of idolatry, the pitfalls of ego, and the emotional turbulence that accompanied his rise to prominence.
In an Instagram post about the book, Avan Jogia shared the deeply personal inspiration behind his poetry.
“So this new book is an exploration of my life at a certain time. A very confusing new time that was asking me to become a fully developed person before I had made up my mind about who I wanted to be.
“And the person I was asked to become was not someone I felt was anything like who I am.”
He further revealed that he moved to Los Angeles alone at 17 after landing his breakout role on Victorious, a period that coincided with his mother’s battle with ovarian cancer.
The book serves as both a time capsule and a reflection on the years that followed, chronicling the emotional toll of fame and personal upheaval.
Avan Jogia’s latest work follows his previous book, Mixed Feelings, which explored themes of identity and belonging.
With Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob), he continues his artistic exploration of self and society, offering readers an intimate look at the struggles that shaped him.
Beyond writing, Jogia remains a multi-faceted artist, working in film, music, and directing.
His personal life has also drawn attention, as he is currently engaged to singer Halsey, with whom he sparked romance rumours in 2023.
Fans have taken to Instagram to share their reactions to the book, with one commenting: “You’ve been through so much. Your scars are now poetry for us to read. Would you say it’s healing for you, Avan?”
Another praised his strength, writing: “Your resilience is what’s most admirable!”
Autopsy (of an Ex-Teen Heartthrob) is set to resonate with fans of contemporary poetry, offering an unflinching examination of fame and identity through the lens of one of Hollywood’s most enigmatic figures.
