Aamir has fallen out with the streaming giants over this issue.

Following the disappointment of Thugs of Hindostan, Aamir Khan began his next project about controversial cult leader Osho.

The series, which focuses on the Rajneesh movement and their leader, was planned to be a Netflix web series.

Khan was fully on board with the series. He was set to star as the spiritual leader and has been heavily involved with the scripting.

However, that looks to be in jeopardy even before filming has begun.

Reportedly, Netflix cannot meet the actor’s demands. They cited that they cannot spend more than a specified amount on the project.

As a result, Aamir has fallen out with the streaming giants over this issue.

Osho’s life has been documented on Netflix in Wild Wild Country which was a big hit and Netflix planned to create a web series.

It was also rumoured to be a Netflix Original after seeing the success of Sacred Games and other Indian originals.

After knowing about the plan, Khan approached them and persuaded them to make him part of the project.

Khan was cast as Osho in the series, which was set to be helmed by Kapoor and Sons fame Shakun Batra.

Netflix was initially happy about the decision, however, Aamir made a lot of changes to the script and insisted that they bring in Alia Bhatt for an important role.

There were rumours that she would be cast as Osho’s disciple Ma Anand Sheela. She has even stated that it be would be her dream role but has not signed the dotted line yet.

Aamir even requested the funding people to recreate Osho’s Ashram so that it looks as realistic as possible.

Netflix has allegedly shown no interest in Aamir’s demands and have said that they cannot spend more than the specified amount.

The budgeting issues have annoyed Aamir as well and this has put the web series in a state of uncertainty.

While it is unclear what the real issue is, the project seems to be in a mess.

Netflix’s series on Osho is in peril, but a Hollywood movie about the cult has been given the green light. Priyanka Chopra announced that she will be playing Ma Anand Sheela.
