Cocktail (2012)

But things begin to go down when Gautam falls in love with Meera, as it seems that three becomes a crowd.

As a result, love and friendship are tested in the film.

Giving the film 4 out of 5 stars, Rubina A. Khan gave a big thumbs up to the film in her review for Firstpost:

“Cocktail is a contemporary film that reflects life as it happens all around us…. just as crazy, twisted, beautiful, funny, weird and lonely as anyone’s life can be.

“Jab Tak Hai Jaan was the movie I didn’t know I needed during my teen years!”

The heartwarming romantic film which focuses on Samar’s journey to true love has the famous song ‘Challa’ sung by Rabbi Shergill.

Queen (2013)

Queen, starring the bubbly Kangana Ranaut in the rom-com directed by Vikas Bahl.

Rani (Kangana) is devasted after her fiance Vijay Rajkujmar Rao abandons her before their wedding.

Subsequently, she decides to go on their honeymoon by herself.

She learns valuable lessons and experiences, discovering her self-identity along the way. This journey of self-discovery is both heartwarming and comedic.

Rani has many popular lines in the movie, with two standing out:

“I taught that robber such a lesson, that he’ll think twice before messing with any Delhi girl.”

“Look at me! I am alone because of him! I’m doing everything alone. Crossing roads alone. Seeing the Eiffel Tower alone. Fighting muggers alone.”

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)

Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani symbolises contemporary Bollywood.

Targeting millennials, this rom-com is directed by Ayan Mukerji of Wake Up Sid (2009) fame.

The film has a star-studded cast, including Ranbir Kapoor (Kabir Thapar) and Deepika Padukone (Naina Talwar).

Playing supporting roles in the film are Aditya Roy Kapur (Avinash ‘Avi Arora), and Kalki Koechlin (Aditi Mehra Khanna).

Meeting on a trekking trip, and Naina falls in love with Kabir but doesn’t tell him. He then leaves for India to pursue his career.

Whilst the pair reunite at a wedding, Kabir remains the career-oriented guy he was before.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani has been described to have one of the best soundtracks in Bollywood, with hits like ‘Balam Pichkari’ and ‘Batameez Dil’.

Deepika told Bollywood Life how she loved her relatable character and the core reason for it :

“I enjoyed playing my part in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

“I can relate to the character (Naina) I play in this film. I see shades of my real-life personality in this character.”

Khoobsurat (2014)

However, the honeymoon phase ends just as quickly as it starts. The pair try to move on but are unable to deny their deep feelings for each other.

They then try to reconcile their love. It seems what the pair believed to be lust, was in fact, love.

Sadia Riaz, a 19-year-old from Birmingham who works in retail expresses that the film was a good reminder to live life to the fullest as she had a pleasurable viewing with her siblings:

Befikre reminded me to live while I’m young and was the perfect choice for a movie night with my sisters!”

Befikre is for those without worry and who takes each day as it comes.

Most importantly, Befikre is the celebration of carefree love.

Phillauri (2017)

Phillauri is a rom-com fantasy film directed by Anshai Lal.

Suraj Sharma, Anushka Sharma, Mehreen Peerzada and popular Punjabi singer-actor  Diljit Dosanjh have pivotal roles in the film.

Kanan Gill (Suraj) arrives for his engagement with high school sweetheart Anu Gill (Mehreen Kaur Pirzada).

When Kanan is advised to marry a tree first to get rid of his astrological curse, things begin to go awry.

The tree he marries contains the ghost of a woman named Shashi Kumari Gill/Shashi Lal ‘Phillauri’ (Anushka).

After their unlikely marriage, Shashi takes Kanan as her unlawfully wedded husband.

What will Kanan do? And will Shashi finish her unfinished business?

Aliza Khan, a 19-year-old student from Birmingham states that the film has a unique plot, which even came as a surprise to her.

“Funny, and cute. It has a rare story that you wouldn’t come across anywhere, let alone in Bollywood.”

” I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but it proved the be surprisingly good. A must watch for all.”

As a ghost story, Phillauri is a film that will have girls giggling at Kanan’s awful luck.

Noor (2017)
